Human Connection Drives Talent Retention in the Age of AI

As AI reshapes the workplace, the real challenge is advancing transformation while sustaining workforce stability. Across the Philippine IT-BPM sector, automation and AI integration are redefining how work gets done. Yet as technology becomes more embedded in daily operations, workforce research shows that human connection remains a key driver of retention.

A 2025 State of HR report found that employees are more likely to stay with a company because of workplace relationships and a sense of belonging rather than access to the latest technology. According to the report, retention in the AI era is shaped by three core drivers: connection, contribution and community. Even as AI transforms workflows, human relationships remain central to long-term engagement.

TELUS Digital Philippines has built its strategy around that balance: advancing AI adoption while giving employees the support and stability they need to adapt.

Instead of positioning AI adoption purely as a productivity lever, the company has approached integration as both a technological and cultural shift. In doing so, it has created a model where innovation and workforce stability can move forward together.

In 2025, TELUS Digital Philippines reduced attrition by 15% year-on-year, while sustaining a 91% engagement rate in 2024 and 2025. At the same time, more than 1,200 team members were recognized as long-service awardees in 2025, reflecting tenure spanning five to twenty years with the organization.

“AI is transforming our industry, but technology alone does not build sustainable companies,” said Anne Muñoz, Country Vice-President of TELUS Digital Philippines. “When AI adoption is paired with meaningful engagement, structured upskilling, and clear career pathways, it strengthens performance and supports long-term careers. Our goal is to ensure innovation creates lasting benefits for our teams and the customers they serve, not short-term disruption.”

Community and connection at scale

Large organizations face a distinct challenge during times of rapid technological change: how to scale innovation without weakening culture. Beyond individual growth, fostering a sense of community can play a stabilizing role during transformation.

In fast-paced environments with distributed teams and shifting schedules, belonging does not happen on its own. TELUS Digital Philippines strengthens connection through engagement programs, informed by data and team member sentiment, communication strategies and platforms designed to keep employees informed and included, and year-round initiatives that encourage collaboration beyond day-to-day operational demands.
That emphasis is intentional. As AI reshapes workflows, strong interpersonal connections can help teams adapt with greater confidence and less uncertainty.

Contribution in an AI-enabled workplace

As roles evolve alongside automation, clarity around how employees contribute becomes increasingly important.

Rather than framing automation as replacement, TELUS Digital Philippines has integrated AI as a tool for augmentation, enabling team members to focus on higher-value, more complex tasks. Across operations, AI-powered tools support agent training, provide AI assistants that help teams resolve customer concerns faster, and give leaders greater visibility through AI-driven coaching and engagement insights.

Structured upskilling programs also support employees as these tools evolve, with an 80.47% completion rate across 5,775 enrollments in 48 AI-focused training programs delivered through the company’s learning platform.

The experience of TELUS Digital Philippines suggests that outcomes are shaped not by speed alone, but by how thoughtfully AI is integrated into the workplace. By pairing AI deployment with clear governance frameworks and sustained employee engagement efforts, the company is working to ensure that innovation strengthens resilience rather than creating instability. Its 15% reduction in attrition, alongside sustained engagement levels, offers one measure of that balance.

AI can optimize workflows, but trust still has to be built. The organizations that will lead this transition are those who embrace innovation without losing sight of the human foundations of work.
