Globe brings together UDM and T.I.P. Manila to champion online safety for students

Globe has brought together Unibersidad de Manila (UDM) and the Technological Institute of the Philippines (T.I.P.) Manila to champion online safety among students through its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP). Globe President and CEO Carl Cruz visited UDM to witness the company’s expanding digital citizenship education through strong partnerships with the academic community. Globe also taught students and faculty members cybersecurity education beyond the classroom, equipping young Filipinos with the knowledge, skills, and values to become responsible digital citizens and advocates for safer online communities.

Students from Unibersidad de Manila participate in Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program, strengthening cybersecurity awareness and responsible digital citizenship through peer-led learning.

More than 200 UDM freshmen students participated in a cybersecurity workshop facilitated by trained student DTP ambassadors from T.I.P. Manila. The session covered cyber threats, online privacy, digital identity protection, and responsible online behavior, helping students build safer online habits as they begin college while demonstrating the impact of peer-led learning in promoting digital safety.

Together, Globe, UDM, and T.I.P. Manila are making digital safety education more accessible through peer-led learning and stronger industry-academe collaboration. By combining Globe’s expertise in digital citizenship, UDM’s commitment to student development, and T.I.P. Manila’s student ambassador program, the initiative empowers students to become champions of responsible technology use within their schools and communities.

“At Globe, we believe that shaping the digital future starts with investing in the next generation. By partnering with the academe, we can help equip young Filipinos not only with the skills to thrive in a digital world, but with the responsibility, judgment, and integrity to help build one that is safer and more trusted for everyone,” said Carl Cruz, President and CEO of Globe.

T.I.P. Manila has adopted Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program as one of its student advocacy initiatives, enabling trained student ambassadors to bring cybersecurity awareness and digital citizenship education to schools and communities through peer-led learning. This approach allows students to learn from fellow youth leaders while extending the program’s impact beyond the classroom.

“Our student ambassadors play an important role in expanding the reach of the Digital Thumbprint Program. By bringing cybersecurity learning to schools and communities, they help more young Filipinos become responsible and informed digital citizens,” said Janette David, Head of Student Affairs of T.I.P. Manila.

For UDM, the partnership reinforces its commitment to preparing students for an increasingly digital future while supporting the City Government of Manila’s vision of building an intelligent and connected city through greater technological literacy and digital readiness. Globe and UDM will also continue exploring digital literacy initiatives, internships, and other opportunities that deepen cross-sectoral collaboration and enrich student learning.

“We are grateful to Globe and T.I.P. Manila for bringing this meaningful cybersecurity workshop to our freshmen. Initiatives like this help our students become more aware, more responsible, and more prepared to face the opportunities and risks of the digital world,” said Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria, University President of UDM. “Partnerships like this strengthen our commitment to preparing students for a rapidly evolving digital landscape while supporting Manila’s vision of becoming a more connected and future-ready city.”

Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program has evolved into a comprehensive digital citizenship initiative covering cybersecurity, data privacy, artificial intelligence, digital literacy, and emerging technologies. Since its launch nearly a decade ago, DTP has reached more than two million students and young leaders nationwide.

Globe continues to expand the reach of digital citizenship education across academic institutions. The initiative equips more young Filipinos with the skills and values to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly while inspiring them to become advocates for safer online communities.
