Krizza Neri, who had for a dedicated mentor Aiza Seguerra, bested Lovely Embuscado (Jaya‘s protege) and Lirah Bermudez (Janno Gibbs‘protege), the two other Top 3 Finalists of GMA Network‘s singing reality search “Protege: The Final Battle.”
For the grand finals, the Top Three were required to perform two songs – one, a duet with their mentor, and another, ‘My Greatest Performance’. In both rounds, it was Krizza Neri who stood out, displaying the consistency she has shown us throughout the competition. Her duet with Aiza Seguerra was particularly noteworthy. The mentor and protege performed “There You’ll Be” (Faith Hill) / “I’ll Be There (For You)” where Krizza demonstrated amazing voice control.
Meanwhile, Lovely Embuscado won two special awards in the Protege grand finals – Texters‘ Choice Award and Biggest Break Award.

To begin with, superb ang performance ni Krizza in the duet with Aiza and it gave her much confidence in her solo number. Although Lovely was the texters choice and perhaps the sentimental favorite, she suffers in comparison in both category in the homestretch. Malaking bagay din ang songs selection in case of the solo number by Lovely. While Krizza was singing with much ease, Lovely seemingly struggled with her birit. Unlike in her previous performances, her voice somewhat faltered along the way.
Aiza Seguerra did well as mentor in terms of dedication and support to her protege. I would like to think the ATTITUDE of both the protege and the mentor was also considered in determining the real winner.
