GMA Network has recently announced it’s upcoming action fantasy series “Victor Magtanggol” featuring one of the network’s biggest stars, Alden Richards in the title role.
Formerly titled as “Mitho”, the series stars Janine Gutierrez, Jasmine Curtis-Smith, John Estrada, and Eric Quizon and will be directed by Dominic Zapata. It is set to premiere in July 2018 on the network’s Telebabad line up.
The network hopes that this show will finally land them in the top spot over the undefeated Kapamilya action-serye “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” starring Coco Martin.
But after the release of its teaser, some netizens quickly noticed some similarities between the said show and with the highly popular Marvel superhero Thor.
Thor is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics created by editor-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, and penciller-plotter Jack Kirby. Thor was based on the Norse deity of the same name, known as the Asgardian god of thunder and possesses the enchanted hammer Mjolnir, which gives him the ability to fly and to manipulate weather amongst his other superhuman abilities.
Chris Hemsworth portrays the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in the film “Thor” (2011), and subsequently appearing in “The Avengers” (2012), “Thor: The Dark World” (2013), “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015), “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017) and “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018).
But in a video posted by The Geekery, a page that focuses on comics, movie reviews, pop culture and anything you need to know about the latest in the geekdom, they pointed out how the title character Victor Magtanggol seemed to be a copy-cat of the Marvel superhero.
They used a clip from one of the films featuring the Marvel superhero to compare it with the teaser of the said Kapuso show.
