Former Senate President Nene Pimentel, other lawmakers ask Mocha Uson to quit her post and return to showbiz

  • Senator Nene Pimentel asked Mocha to avoid meddling with the Federalism campaign.
  • ACT party-list representatives told Mocha to resign after ridiculing the deaf community.

Several lawmakers including former Senator and Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr. asked Presidential Communications Operations Office Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson to quit and just go back to the entertainment industry.

The former lawmaker and Federalism advocate Pimental in a statement told Mocha to go back to the entertainment industry and stop meddling in the government’s federalism campaign.

“She should just stay in the entertainment industry and not talk about federalism, which she clearly knows nothing about,” said Pimentel, a member of the Constitutional Consultative Committee formed by President Duterte to draft the federal charter.

“Doon na lang siya sa sayaw-sayaw (Just stick to dancing), OK lang,” Pimentel added.

Aside from Pimentel, Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) party-list lawmakers Rep. Antonio Tinio and Rep. France Castro also asked Mocha Uson to resign from her post for violating existing laws.

The two lawmakers said Uson together with Drew Olivar have violated Republic Act 9442 or The Magna Carta for Disabled Persons after posting a video which ridiculed and disrespected the deaf community.

“Uson and Olivar must be held accountable for their irresponsible and disrespectful act. The video posted by Uson had no other purpose but to make fun of the Filipino sign language and the deaf,” they said.

“The video was not an innocent mistake but was intentionally posted to ridicule and make fun of the deaf. Uson once again violated the law, this time at the expense of a group of people with disability. She must be held accountable for this action. She is a public official being paid by taxpayers, she should be reminded that she is working for the Filipino people and the least she could do is to respect those paying for her high salary,” ACT lawmakers added.

The Philippine Federation of the Deaf meanwhile has already filed a complaint at the Office of the Ombudsman to investigate Uson for violating The Magna Carta for Disabled Persons and the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
