It’s Showtime director Bobet Vidanes recently celebrated his birthday. In a recent episode, direk Bobet reminisced his humble beginnings with his real friends. Direk Bobet was surprised to see his best friends who inspired It’s Showtime.

“Simula nung bata kami, heto talaga ‘yung mga tunay kong kaibigan… Simula nung magtrabaho ako dito sa ABS(CBN), sila ‘yung naiwan ko sa probinsya… Sobrang mahal ko ‘tong mga taong ‘to… Bihira kong makasama ‘tong mga ‘to, kita niyo namang mga probinsyano, diba.”

“Eto naman ‘yung mga kapatid ko sa bundok, kasama ko silang nagmomotor. Eto ha, isha-share ko sa inyo kung bakit ko nabuo ang Showtime. Because of these guys, eto po ‘yun…”
Direk Bobet, then, began listing down names of his friends that inspired It’s Showtime. He shared where the word ‘Magpasikat’ in the show’s title came from.
“Heto, pinagmamalaki ko. Wala na akong maisip na programa, kung anong gagawin ko. Eto po ‘yung mga taong mayayabang, makukulit. Kaya may word na ‘Magpasikat,’ kasi kami po ‘yung hilig na hilig na magpasikat sa buong barkada lang namin. Kami ‘yung mahilig mag-yabang sa barkada lang namin. Dito ko nabuo ‘yung Showtime, because of this group.”
Direk Bobet is now 53 years old.
