  • The comedian is joined in this Star Cinema movie by fellow ABS-CBN talent Richard Gutierrez and GMA network actor Dingdong Dantes
  • “Fantastica” led the MMFF 2018 box office tally
  • Vice Ganda expressed his gratitude profusely to those who supported his 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Fantastica

After a long wait, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “Fantastica,” starred by the unkabogable blockbuster star comedian Vice Ganda, has set a new record on the big screen.

It was during a thanksgiving dinner on Tuesday, while celebrating “Fantastica’s” success, co-producer Star Cinema announced that the festival favorite is now the “highest grossing Vice Ganda movie.”

Generating P596-million worldwide, “Fantastica” has surpassed Vice Ganda’s previous MMFF entry, “Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad,” which totaled P571 million after its run.

At the thanksgiving party, Vice Ganda shared the credits of the movie’s success to the overwhelming support of his co-stars’ respective fans when he teamed-up with Richard Gutierrez and Dingdong Dantes. And to the three popular love teams — Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte, Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber, and Kisses Delavin and Donny Pangilinan — whose fans clubs actively supported “Fantastica.”

Vice Ganda described the overwhelming support for the film as “Ang lala,” He also thanked first-time collaborator Barry Gonzalez, the director.

Leading the MMFF 2018 box office tally, “Fantastica” factors more than half of the total ticket performance of the annual Christmastime movie festival. Its organizing committee previously announced it had reached its goal of P1-billion gross at the end of its two-week run.

Present at the thanksgiving party, as reported, were executives of ABS-CBN, including chairman Mark Lopez, president and CEO Carlo Katigbak, and Star Cinema head Olivia Lamasan, who each congratulated everyone behind “Fantastica” on its record-breaking performance.

However, Vice Ganda’s box-office best is “The Super Parental Guardians” which he starred with Coco Martin, that earned P598 million after a five-week run in 2016. Though it was not among the eight competing entries in that year’s MMFF, it still remains his most successful in terms of ticket sales.

In the overall box-office tally, the movie “The Hows of Us” starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, has since clinched the record of becoming the first Philippine-produced film to breach P800 million worldwide.
