Through the continuous support of various individuals and sectors all over the world, ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya has already helped 724,995 families in the Visayas and Mindanao, after Typhoon Yolanda hit the country last November 2013.

Aside from constantly providing relief assistance to the 14 provinces in the said regions, Sagip Kapamilya also aims to foster learning among the youth despite the tragedy they experienced. It already started building new classrooms and has already given children new school supplies to help with their education.

“We have already started building schools. Probably, we can finish 10 to 15 classrooms within the next two months” said Sagip Kapamilya program director Tina Monzon-Palma.

Sagip Kapamilya has also helped in rebuilding the livelihood of the typhoon victims. In fact, more than 100 boats had been given to some families in Basey, Samar and Dulag, Leyte. There are 4,000 boats more to be distributed to other coastal areas in the said provinces.

To date, Sagip Kapamilya has received a total of P701 million of cash donations and P250 million worth of in-kind donations.

Despite the huge amount of donations gathered, Palma said that support for the affected families must not stop as they continue to rebuild their lives from scratch.

“We may think that we’ve already received massive amounts of donation, but the daily needs of the families in devastated areas go on,” said Palma.
