P&G Philippines donates over P3 million worth of hygiene products and commits more to rehabilitate Batangas

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – In its continuous effort to be a force for good and a force for growth in the country, Procter & Gamble (P&G) Philippines partnered with Philippine Red Cross for immediate assistance to communities affected by the Taal volcano eruption in Batangas.

Under the partnership, P&G donated over three million pesos worth of hygiene products, on top of P&G’s own product and financial donations. P&G employees led the repacking efforts at the Philippine Red Cross Headquarters in Mandaluyong City and joined in distributing the relief bags to affected barangays in Taal and Lemery, Batangas. Over 2,000 families received hygiene kits with P&G’s branded products like Safeguard bar soaps, Oral B toothbrushes, Ariel laundry bar soaps, Head and Shoulders shampoo, Whisper sanitary pads, and other toiletry essentials.

P&G’s commitment to helping rebuild communities after calamities is a natural expression of the company’s purpose to improve lives. “Our brands can meet many of the most basic needs people have when their everyday lives are disrupted by disasters. We want to bring relief to displaced families and give them the experience of home,” said P&G Philippines Communications Head Anna Legarda-Locsin.

Responding to natural and humanitarian crises around the world has always been a priority for the company. P&G Philippines’ Project Hope which rebuilt 5,000 sari-sari stores after typhoon Yolanda and Tide’s Loads of Hope in the U.S.- a mobile laundry program which provides free laundry services to families- are just some examples of the global company’s relief projects. In 2019, P&G responded to 25 disasters around the world, relying on its superior products, people, partners and disciplined process to ensure that all immediate and long-term post-disaster relief efforts are making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

P&G also collaborated with Manila Water Foundation to give hygiene kits and teach proper handwashing and disaster preparedness to 500 students, teachers and parents at Tanauan North Central Elementary School. Proper handwashing with soap is an important preventive action against communicable diseases especially after disasters and with the recent outbreak of the COVID-19.

Manila Water Foundation leads the handwashing training to the 500 students and teachers of Tanauan North Central Elementary School.

P&G, in collaboration with the Manila Water Foundation, aids in the health and safety of Batangueños through handwashing training.

While the probability of an explosive eruption has decreased, Taal Volcano remains at Alert Level 2. The company will continue to give needed assistance and help in the medium to long-term rehabilitation for affected homes and communities through the US$ 25,000 donation from the P&G Global Disaster Relief Fund. This is on top of P&G Philippines’ financial donations.

“P&G Philippines will continue to collaborate with different public and private sectors in programs that will help provide relief assistance to Filipino families. This is one of the ways we show our strong commitment to nation-building,” Locsin said.
