Journalist chides Rep. Rodante Marcoleta for wanting news limelight

Netizen and journalist Barnaby Lo shared what could be the reason for Sagip Partylist Rodante Marcoleta’s hard-line opposition to the ABS-CBN franchise.

In a tweet, Lo shared an artcard by IMT news containing Marcoleta’s statement during the ABS-CBN franchise hearing on Monday.

Lo said Marcoleta wanted his party list to be featured on the news.

“Gusto niya may Marcoleta beat.”

During Monday’s hearing on the ABS-CBN franchise, Marcoleta once again grilled ABS-CBN over the issue of news bias.

Marcoleta questioned ABS-CBN News head Ging Reyes on the conduct of their news reporting.

After echoing the gripes of other congressmen against ABS-CBN news coverage, Marcoleta seemingly brought up his own personal gripe about the network.

In his statement, the partylist congressman slammed ABS-CBN for headlining crimes and other bad news.

“Patayan dito, patayan doon…Kailangang ibalita puro patay? Nirape si ganito, ninakaw ‘yong ganito. Ito ang nangyayari,” he said.

Then he asked why did the network did not report on the initiatives of his Sagip Partylist during the pandemic.

“Wala man lang ibinalita na ‘Sagip Party-list ni Cong. Rodante Marcoleta, namigay ng [bigas]´. Kasi marami akong nahingan ng bigas sa mga kaibigan ko,” he added.

Marcoleta has been one of the staunchest critics of the ABS-CBN franchise bills.

He was the one responsible for bringing up issues on 50-year franchise limit, the citizenship of former ABS-CBN chairman Gabby Lopez, the constitutional violation on ABS-CBN offering of PDRs, the alleged illegal return of ABS-CBN to the Lopezes after the EDSA 1986 revolution, and the allegation on tax evasion through the use of PEZA accredited subsidiary Big Dipper.

However, all agencies concerned with regard to the allegations have all cleared ABS-CBN.
