As a sign of respect to Jodi Sta. Maria, Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo did not answer the inquiry about the speculation of an offer to play the lead role of Doctor Foster‘s Philippine adaptation.
On Monday, May 24, during an Instagram live with G3 San Diego, the Santos-Agoncillo gave a safe reply and refused to answer the question directly.
She felt that it will be disrespectful to Sta. Maria’s part, if she will give her thoughts about the matter.
“I don’t know if I have to answer that question, kasi I don’t want to be unfair kay Jodi.”
The actress also threw it back to their management as to what their reply be.
Meanwhile, talent manager Ogie Diaz revealed the reason behind Judy Ann’s refusal of the project.
“Parang si Judy Ann Santos hindi tinanggap yung World of the Married kasi nga may maseselang eksena doon. At bilang respeto kay Ryan Agoncillo, sa kanyang asawa. Ganu’n lang yun,” Diaz said in a vlog uploaded on May 7.
Santos-Agoncillo became the people’s top choice to portray the title role when ABS-CBN first announced its collaboration with BBC Studios to produce the remake of the famous British original series.
South Korea also had their adaptation with a localized title The World of the Married, and became a hit.
In the Philippines, Jodi Sta. Maria got chosen to portray Dr. Jill Ilustre, whose life will be put in misery after knowing that her husband is cheating on her.
The PH remake titled The Broken Marriage Vow will also include Zanjoe Marudo as Dr. Ilustre’s husband, Sue Ramirez as the mistress, and Zaijan Jaranilla as the only son of the Ilustres.
In the same IG live, Santos addressed her anticipated reunion project with former leading man Piolo Pascual.
She said that she is open to working with Pascual again as long as there is a good material: “Malaking factor din kasi kung ano ‘yung takbo ng storya kasi ang tagal-tagal na wala kaming project together. It should be something really worth watching and worth waiting. Kasi kung gagawa kami ng project na puchi-puchi lang, para lang magsama kami, parang unfair naman iyon sa pangkalahatan. Parang hindi tama, hindi tugma at hindi akma na, ‘Gawin natin ito kasi gusto ng mga fans.”
Santos-Agoncillo and Pascual’s love team is one of the well-loved in the early 2000s. Their chemistry played a huge factor in capturing the hearts of viewers.
“Wala namang question ‘yung chemistry namin ni Piolo to begin with. From the very start of our tandem, may chemistry na siguro din talagang nakita ang ABS.”
According to her, their friendship allows them to work comfortably and that radiates to the audience.
“Because we are really good friends, kami ni Piolo. Probably it was really a nice friendship na talagang kapag on-cam, on-cam. Trabaho natin ito, gagawin natin ito.
“I guess the spark when you act with your love team, automatic na siyang lumalabas. And may mutual naman kaming pagtingin sa isa’t isa at some point siguro no? Kasi ‘yung chemistry hindi naman siya lalabas doon eh,” Santos said.
However, the reunion project is not happening too soon because she does not want to work under lock-in tapings due to the pandemic.
