Kapamilya actress Iza Calzado recalled how the Kapamilya network thrived one year after its shutdown on July 10, 2020.

During the media conference for the July episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya, Calzado recounted taping for her series when ABS-CBN shut down in 2020.

“Around this time last year was our first bubble taping for Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin.”

She then highlighted how the network survived and thrived for the past year without the franchise.

“One year later, we’re still here and not just, of course, surviving but also I’d like to think that we’re thriving, really. Despite the loss of the franchise, there have been talked about shows, and I mean ang dami pa rin.”

After that, Calzado expressed her gratitude toward everyone, who stood firm.

“And, I have to commend and congratulate the Network, everybody I know that’s working really hard to make this possible. How amazed I am, how we managed to turn our own struggles and turn them into our strength. It has made us stronger. And, I think it united us.”

She also thanked the network for the opportunity to do meaningful projects for their Kapamilyas and the entertainment industry.

“Para sa industriya talaga itong ginagawa natin. It’s been a tough, more than one year, but more so for ABS-CBN. So I think it’s very /meaningful that we are doing this for our Kapamilyas. So thank you for this opportunity.”

Calzado worked on the teleserye Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin, along with Jodi Sta. Maria during the ABS-CBN Shutdown.

In the recent 3rd Laguna Excellence Awards, Calzado got recognized as Outstanding TV Actress of the Year for her effective portrayal of Ellice Villarosa in the TV series, Ang sa Iyo ay Akin.

As for her MMK Episode, Calzado joins Heaven Peralejo and Shamaine Buencamino in a mother-daughter story focusing on mental illness in the episode My Two Mothers, directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar, to air on July 24.

On July 10, 2020, ABS-CBN shut down after Congress denied their 25-year franchise in May of the same year.

Despite losing its franchise, the network continued producing content through digital platforms for the past year.

Later on, they made their free TV return via their block time deals with A2Z channel 11 and TV5. (Additional text by Jude Cartalaba.)
