ABS-CBN prepares an ambitious line-up of new shows to air in late 2021 and early 2022

The return of Darna, two Koreanovela adaptations, and the second season of the wildly popular teenage series, He’s Into Her, carry ABS-CBN’s campaign of giving its audiences an ambitious line-up across its many platforms next few months.

ABS-CBN is all geared up to offer its viewers across its free TV and online platforms a never-before-seen ambitious line-up of new shows. Most of these upcoming shows have begun their cycles of lock-in taping, and premieres are set to take place in the last quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022.

Local adaptations of the global hit Korean dramas Flower of Evil and The World of the Married. Lock-in taping for The Broken Marriage Vow started in Baguio City in July. The series stars Jodi Sta. In the lead roles, Maria, Zanjoe Marudo, and Sue Ramirez, alongside a powerful ensemble of supports including Jane Oineza, Zaijian Jaranilla, Joem Bascon, Art Acuña, Empress Schuck, Ronnie Lazaro, Angeli Bayani, Ketchup Eusebio, and Rachel Alejandro.

The Filipino adaptation of the romantic thriller, Flower of Evil, was recently announced last month, during the contract signing of the new Kapamilya talent, Lovi Poe. Poe stars in the series alongside Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual. The series follows a psychopath who tried to conceal his dark background by living a perfect life with his detective wife. Poe and Pascual, along with the still unannounced other cast members, are expected to begin taping this month.

One of iWantTFC’s most successful web series, He’s Into Her, is poised to return early next year. Fans have been anticipating Deib and Max’s endearing love story to resume for a while now, but they may have to wait a bit longer, as taping for the show’s second season is yet to begin. They can, however, reminisce the best moments of Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano, a.ka. Donbelle, in the series, by binge-watching its first season again on iWantTFC.

With the upcoming TV series, Viral, MMFF 2020 Best Actress Charlie Dizon is set to play a lead role in a TV series for the first time. The series which has already started teasing audiences for its nearing debut, features an ensemble cast of great actors which include Dimples Romana, Joshua Garcia, Jake Cuenca, Jameson Blake, Maxene Magalona, Ria Atayde, Markus Paterson,Gian Magdangal, Vance Larena, Aya Fernandez, Miko Raval, and Victor Silayan.

A new TV series will mark Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte’s first lead roles in an ABS-CBN series. Love in 40 Days will be produced by the production unit, Dreamscape Entertainment, and will feature Joel Torre, Janice de Belen, Lotlot de Leon, Mylene Dizon, Isay Alvarez, Liza Lorena, Ronnie Henares, Tonton Gutierrez, and William Lorenzo, as cast members. Young stars, Elisse Joson, Katrina Legaspi, Renshi de Guzman, Vaughn Piczon, Zabel Maberth, and Mark Rivera are also part of the upcoming series.

KathNiel fans are undoubtedly on cloud nine, as their favorite love team, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, are finally gearing up for their highly-anticipated teleserye comeback, 2 Good 2 Be True. The series will be helmed by the Crazy Beautiful You director, Mae Cruz-Alviar, who directed some of Star Cinema’s box office films and ABS-CBN’s hit TV series.

ABS-CBN’s TV adaptation of Mars Ravelo’s classic, Darna, will likely become the network’s banner series for 2022, given its production size and budget. The network is set to utilize its state-of-the-art soundstages in Bulacan in producing the series, which comes in the wake of numerous delays and cancellations. The superhero series also boasts an ensemble cast, including Iza Calzado, Rio Locsin, Joshua Garcia, Zaijian Jaranilla, etc. Cast members are set to begin taping in Bulacan next month.

While the aforementioned shows will continue to excite Kapamilya viewers, more big productions are still expected to be announced in the following months.

Recently, an international project headlined by award-winning Kapamilya actor Arjo Atayde was announced, marking the beginning of similar productions in the next few years. These developments are expected to help the company recuperate after losing free television—its main revenue stream—last year.
