Aside from its talented ensemble cast and grand production design, The Broken Marriage Vow is a must-watch for many other great reasons.
Even before its airing on Monday, January 24, excitement was already on a different level for The Broken Marriage Vow.
Based on BBC Studios’ original version of Dr. Foster. Its South Korean adaptation got aired on ABS-CBN in 2020. Most shows tackling extra-marital affairs tend to gain ‘massive’ interest from viewers, and the success seems to have been in effect since its announcement in April 2021.
That said, there are many reasons beyond its familiar plot that merits the show’s attention.
It’s Jodi Sta. Maria’s comeback show.
Seeing Sta. Maria’s past shows like Pangako Sa’ Yo (2015), and Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin (2020), then you are already introduced to her brilliance as a dramatic actress. As Dr. Jill Ilistre, Sta. Maria commands high praise once more. How she takes on the role, which she played by at least four other actresses from across the globe, is intriguing enough, but how this Philippine adaptation allows her character to meld with Filipino cultural sensibilities may likely make it more interesting.
The show gives Sue Ramirez’s most-important role to date.
It is undeniable that Lexy Lucero is Ramirez’s ‘biggest’ and most important role to date.
The actress has appeared in various Kapamilya shows and starred in the lead role in the film–Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa Wifi (2018), but The Broken Marriage Vow is her most awaited bug break. As Lexy, Ramirez plays the mistress on the series. Jodie Comer (Dr. Foster) and Han So-Yee (The World of the Married) previously portrayed the character.
It’s Connie Macatuno’s primetime TV directorial debut.
Macatuno is known for her progressive films, Glorious (2018), Wild and Free (2018), and Rome and Juliet (2006). She also helmed the multi-awarded iWantTFC film, Malaya, in 2020. As a TV director, she had the taste of the job as early as 1999, when she directed the ABS-CBN late-night talk show, Martin Late At Night, although it wasn’t until 2010 that she finally helmed a TV drama. The Broken Marriage Vow serves as her first foray into directing a primetime drama, as her first two series, The Substitute Bride (2010) and Paraiso (2012), aired on daytime.
The show showcases the picturesque landscapes of Baguio City.
The series is shot entirely in the City of Pines and showcases various exquisite locations. Viewers will surely feast on the lovely and breathtaking scenery, all captured in sweeping, aesthetic, and panoramic camerawork. The show’s beautiful cinematography and unique way of delivering the shots will surely entice viewers, as this style is new in the local setting.
An all-star ensemble drama.
Aside from its stellar roster of lead actors, seasoned and up-and-coming stars alike are in the series.
Playing supporting, but all important roles, are Rachel Alejandro, Bianca Manalo, Franco Laurel, Brent Manalo, Jane Oineza, Joem Bascon, Migs Almendras, Malou Crisologo, Ketchup Eusebio, Art Acuña, Sandino Martin, Angeli Bayani, and Jie-Ann Romero. Veteran stars, Ronnie Lazaro and Susan Africa also appear in guest roles, while Jake Ejercito is set to play a still undisclosed character.
