Ayala Malls Cinemas exclusively brings the electrifying ‘Challengers’

Ayala Malls Cinemas brings another highly anticipated film to their roster of critically acclaimed titles with the exclusive Philippine theatrical run of Challengers starting April 24. The film is helmed by visionary filmmaker Luca Guadagdnino, known for his works Call Me By Your Name and Bones and All, and features stellar and powerhouse performances from main stars Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor

In Challengers, Zendaya stars as Tashi Duncan, a former tennis prodigy turned coach and a force of nature who makes no apologies for her game on and off the court. Married to Art, a champion on a losing streak played by Mike Faist of West Side Story, Tashi’s strategy for her husband’s redemption takes a surprising turn when he must face off against the washed-up Patrick, portrayed by Josh O’ Connor of The Crown, who also happens to be Art’s former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.

Challengers bounces through a dynamic, interweaving storyline that travels back and forth in these characters’ lives, framed by a revelatory tennis match between Art and Patrick that takes place 13 years since they met Tashi. As their pasts and presents collide, tensions run high on the cost of winning.

Early reviews from international critics are phenomenal, citing the captivating performances of Zendaya and company. Trace Sauveur of Austin Chronicle shared, “Challengers is some real electric character drama. The pulsing Reznor/Ross electro score throbs over scenes of dialogue like they’re action sequences. Really alive-feeling movie.” While Hayley Peppin of Harpers Bazaar raves on “The clothes are hot — designed by J.W. Anderson, no less — the actors are hot, the plot is hot. ‘Challengers’ is the steamy drama to make you fall for tennis.”
