Not much happens in the small town of Providence, or so rogue local cop Terry (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) tells his rookie partner, Will (Himesh Patel). But Will’s first day on the job changes everything after the unlikely duo accidentally discovers one million dollars at a crime scene of their own making. Determined to keep the money for themselves, their greed sets off a chain reaction of chaos in their small island town. As the community’s power-hungry residents – Will’s pregnant wife (Lily James), a masseur (Simon Rex), and a local seafood magnate (Tim Blake Nelson) – become entangled in the mad dash for cash, they learn just how far they are willing to go for the almighty dollar.

Talking about his first time reading the script for Greedy People, Himesh Patel tells Mid-Day, “I thought it was brilliant. I love films with surprising moments, but here, those twists were layered into the story logically. Each mistake led to the next, and Will [Shelley, his character] finds himself cornered with no way out. His and Paige’s [Lily James’ character] decisions pile up, leading to a truly shocking climax. After that, all bets are off. It makes for a thrilling ending.”
On how the movie changed his perspective on greed, Patel says, “The power [of greed] can turn good people. There are a lot of people in this story who are ostensibly good people who get led astray by the temptation that’s in front of them but also by the stress of their circumstance. And what they perceive to be the correct sort of moral ethical choice, which actually ends up getting them in deeper trouble. So I think it did make me think about the fact that you really should stop and take a minute, if you’re confronted by a fork in the road… But also I just think it’s a real thrill ride, this movie. You don’t know where it’s going to go… and I hope people enjoy that.”
