Phillip Salvador laments 2025 Midterm loss, joins wave of celebrity election flops

The 2025 Philippine midterm elections have delivered a stunning reality check for several celebrities-turned-politicians, with veteran actor Phillip Salvador among the most vocal about his defeat.
In a recent statement, Salvador expressed frustration over his loss, seemingly sourgraping as he questioned the electoral process.

“Kami po ay hindi naghabol para makaupo. Ito pong ginagawa natin ay para sa sambayanan,”.

Salvador stated, emphasizing his intent to serve the public. However, his tone shifted as he recounted inviting a wheelchair-bound woman to vote in Pasig, only to ask pointedly, “Ano nangyari sa boto natin? Paano ko masasagot ‘yun? Ang makakasagot lang n’yon: COMELEC. Sila lang ang makakasagot.”
Salvador’s defeat is part of a broader trend in the 2025 midterms, where several high-profile celebrities failed to secure their political bids. The action star, who ran for a local position, joined the likes of other entertainment figures who struggled to translate their on-screen charisma into votes.
Political analysts point to growing voter skepticism toward celebrity candidates, with the public increasingly prioritizing platforms over popularity. Voters are becoming more discerning and fame isn’t enough anymore; people want substance.
Despite his loss, Salvador’s comments have sparked debate about the integrity of the elections, with some supporters echoing his call for transparency from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). Critics, however, see his remarks as a refusal to accept defeat gracefully. The 2025 midterms, held on May 12, saw a record turnout, with COMELEC reporting smooth operations despite isolated incidents of irregularities.
As the dust settles, Salvador and his fellow celebrity candidates may need to reflect on their campaigns—and whether stardom can still shine in the political arena.
