Content creator Bretman Rock has spoken candidly about his long-standing dislike for actress Vanessa Hudgens, tracing it back to an awkward encounter at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival several years ago.
Bretman shared the story during an episode of the Sweet or Savory Podcast, hosted by Filipino-American couple AJ Rafael and Alyssa Navarro. When asked about his most disappointing celebrity encounter, Bretman initially hinted at someone with the initials “VH” before directly naming Hudgens.
According to Bretman, the incident happened before the pandemic at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where both he and Hudgens were invited guests of the same vegan gummy vitamin brand. He recalled arriving to collect his festival passes and noticing Hudgens speaking with the brand’s chief executive officer, whom Bretman personally knew.
“I was trying to get his attention and waving, not at her, and she looks at me and tries to hide,” Bretman said, expressing his irritation over what he perceived as an unnecessary reaction. He clarified that he had no intention of greeting Hudgens and jokingly added that he has always been “Team Sharpay,” referencing the rivalry between Sharpay Evans and Gabriella Montez in High School Musical.
Bretman went on to criticize Hudgens further, saying he did not understand why she appeared uncomfortable and questioning her reputation as a so-called “Coachella Queen.” He emphasized that they were both attending the event under the same circumstances and insisted that he does not seek validation from other celebrities.
“Girl, you’re not above me, I’m not under you,” Bretman said, adding that he was disappointed given their shared Filipino heritage.
The content creator also recalled previous instances where he appeared to shade Hudgens publicly, including comments made during his 2023 visit to Palawan, when he pointed out her difficulty pronouncing the province’s name despite her role as a tourism ambassador for the Philippines. He later poked fun at the actress again during the U.S. premiere of the Filipino film A Very Good Girl by pretending not to recognize her.
As of this writing, Hudgens has not responded publicly to Bretman’s remarks.
