The voice of Regine Velasquez is very distinct that it earned her the title “Asia’s Songbird.” Acting wise, Regine has starred in many top grossing romantic-comedy movies and television drama series which only proved her versatility as a total entertainer.
In the movie, 2003 Captain Barbell starring her husband Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez played the role of a Pinoy famous superhero Darna.
In a recent interview at a press conference for Regine Velasquez upcoming concert series entitled “Regine” at Solaire she conveyed her thoughts and concern for Angel Locsin.
Out of concern Regine Velasquez stated “Actually nalungkot ako. Hindi ko kasi napanood ‘yung interview but I saw it sa Instagram. But she is right, she has to first take care of herself before anything else, kasi mahirap ‘yung back eh.” {“Actually I am sad. I haven’t seen the interview but I saw it on Instagram. But she is right, she has to first take care of herself before anything else, cause it is hard when your back (referring to spine) is affected”}
Angel Locsin has intensified her popularity when she played Darna on the GMA Network TV series in 2005. In preparation for her iconic super hero role Angel seriously trained in the fields of marital arts like Kung-Fu and Wushu to depict her Darna role with such conviction.
Angel Locsin explained in an interview that she probably got her injury from the 2 years hard physical training in preparation for her Darna role. She also added that she has fallen on her back several times while shooting other movies before.
Regine Velazquez also said “You know, that girl kasi she’s so athletic. Minsan kasi kapag bata ka hindi mo napapansin, sige lang tira ng tira, go lang ng go.” {“You know that girl is very athletic. Sometimes when you are young you would not notice anything and you will just go ahead and try to experience things.”}
Regine Velazquez is sad about the fact that, what we do when you are young has some implications as we grow older and the realization will come in too late.
“As you get older, you realize that you are not a superwoman. You are not Darna actually; you are just a normal person.”
She has a final thought on the decision of Angel Locsin not to do Darna again by saying “Saludo naman ako doon sa ginawa niya”{“I salute her on her decision.”}
The Asia’s Songbird Regine realizes how hard for Angel to decide not to do the Darna movie. She even commended Angel for doing the best thing when it comes to her personal priorities.
