Six singers from different parts of the country will showcase their range and musicality in the Quarter 3 week-long semifinals in “Tawag ng Tanghalan” on “It’s Showtime” that begins on Monday (January 29).

Three contenders from Mindanao, two from Luzon, and one from Visayas will pull out all the stops to stand out and advance to the popular competition’s grand finals.

First on the list is Ato Arman of Bukidnon, who has plenty of “almosts” to look back on, including almost releasing his own album in the past. A tool sharpener and carpenter, his greatest motivation is getting out of poverty.

Making a winning return to the competition is Charles Kevin Tan of Negros Occidental. A “resbaker” and now semifinalist, he won as daily winner in 2016 but failed to steal the golden microphone from the defending champion.

Sofronio Vasquez of Misamis Occidental also staged a glorious comeback after joining the competition’s Year 1, then trying out many times in Year 2. This time, he will make his ill father his inspiration and will do everything to bring home the gold.

Tuko Delos Reyes of Aurora, meanwhile, started working different jobs at a young age and eventually finished an information technology course. He, however, returned to singing and aims to win the competition to prove that his chosen profession is the perfect one for him.

Former microphone saleslady Lalainne Araña of South Cotabato also sees her “Tawag ng Tanghalan” stint as a step closer to her dream of becoming a professional singer, after she stopped chasing her dream of becoming a flight attendant due to poverty.

Victory is almost within Boyet Onte’s reach, now determined more than ever after failing to get through seven auditions for “Tawag ng Tanghalan.” With his son as his inspiration, he will step on stage with confidence in the week-long semifinals.

Like the previous semifinals, the judges’ scores and the madlang people’s votes will determine the contenders that will make it to the grand finals.

They will be judged based on how they perform their audition song, fight song, song for their families, song of their musical influence, the judges’ choice, and song about their life.

Who among the semifinalists will make it to the grand finals?

Meanwhile, netizens may watch the semifinals live on Showtime.abs-cbn.com/Livestream. To support your favorite contenders, vote for them by texting TAWAG (space) (Name of Semifinalist) and send to 2366. Voting is free for ABS-CBNmobile subscribers and P1 for other networks. A SIM card can only send one vote per day.

Don’t miss the fun and good vibes in “It’s Showtime,” on ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN HD (Sky Cable ch 167). For the program’s past episode, login to iWant TV or on skyondemand.com.ph for Sky subscribers.
