  • Janine Berdin and Reggie Tortugo of Visayas make it to “Tawag ng Tanghalan” Grand Finals
  • 16 former semifinalists return for ‘ultimate resbak’

Student Janine Berdin of Cebu and freelance singer Reggie Tortugo of Ormoc, Leyte are moving one step closer to their dream of becoming the newest “Tawag ng Tanghalan” grand champion.

The two singers were officially named grand finalists, each of them winning P100,000, when they prevailed over other contenders in the week-long semifinals that ended on Friday (May 18). Janine recorded a combined score of 97.98% from the judges and the madlang people’s text and online votes, while Reggie got 60.84%.

They are joining the highly anticipated grand finals, along with with Jovany Satera and Alfred Relatado of Quarter 1, Anton Antenorcruz and Remy Luntayao of Quarter 2, Tuko Delos Reyes and Sofronio Vasquez of Quarter 3, and global grand finalists Steven Paysu and Makoto Inoue.

While they failed to win the week-long battle, Quarter 4 semifinalists Arabelle dela Cruz, Adelene Rabulan, Aljun Alborme, JM Bales, Christian Neil Bahaya, Douglas Dagal, and Arbie Baula are moving on to the “ultimate resbak” round. They are battling with Aila Santos of Quarter 1, Mark Michael Garcia, Rico Garcia, and John Raymundo of Quarter 2, Ato Arman, Lalainne Arana, and Boyet Onte of Quarter 3, as well as global semifinalists Penny Salcedo and Jing Wenghofer.

Based on their performances on the “Tawag ng Tanghalan’s” online show, the judges picked Douglas to occupy the “ultimate resbak” seat of power. Meanwhile, JM was selected by the madlang people through text and online votes.

Each of them is given the chance to choose an “ultimate resbaker” who will be pitted against each other. The singer who wins the round will then get to challenge one of those are in the seat of power.

JM and Douglas are still the reigning contenders as the “resbak” round continues on Monday (May 21). JM won against his challenger John, while Rico officlally bid goodbye to the competition after being defeated by John in their face-off.

The two “ultimate resbakers” who will remain the strongest based on the combined scores from the judges and madlang people votes will move on to the grand finals.
