- Dra. Belo revealed getting bullied in her younger years.
- Netizens relate to Vicki Belo’s experience.
Celebrity doctor Dr. Vicki Belo wasn’t able to avoid getting emotional as she recalled her “ugly” past.
During her judging stint on It’s Showtime‘s Magpasikat 2019, the doctor to the stars revealed how she was bullied during her younger years because of her appearance.
Belo’s recollection of her past was brought about by Vice Ganda’s winning performance which centered on people’s imperfections and how it should be celebrated instead of hidden away.
“Parang ayaw mo nang may nabu-bully. Ayaw mo nang may naiiwan… Hindi niyo alam, kaya ako pumasok sa beauty business dahil I’m also a victim of bullying. So when I was a child, I was very fat. I was five years old, I weighed a hundred pounds. And I was adopted, ampon po ako ng mga Belo,” she said.
“Iyong mga kids tinutukso ako, ‘Bakit ka pinamigay, dahil pangit ka? Or dahil ang taba mo?'” she added while holding her tears.
She then shared that the reason behind putting up her beauty clinics is because she doesn’t want to see people being discriminated against and bullied because of their appearance.
“I think people don’t understand that the reason I went into beauty is [because] I want to make everyone beautiful. Because when they’re more beautiful, they’re more loved, accepted,” Belo shared.
Meanwhile, Belo’s revelation has inspired and touched netizens. Many have shared the same experience of dealing with their own insecurities.
When Dra. @VickiBelo said
“I want to be beautiful because when you’re beautiful, you are loved and accepted”
I felt it. I’ve been dealing with my skin insecurities for so long and felt hopeless. A sad reminder for me to always work extra in everything to feel beautiful.
