- Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards were named 2019 Phenomenal Box Office Stars.
Known for his record-breaking films, Vice Ganda has been consistently awarded the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box Office Entertainment Award’s Phenomenal Box Office Star for eight consecutive years.
But this year, Vice missed out on the award as his 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival entry The Mall, The Merrier fell to the second place following top grosser Miracle in Cell No. 7.
The Phenomenal Box Office Star title is the highest award given annually by GMMSF. Previously the highest honors given at the Box Office Entertainment Award was the Box Office King and Queen awards, but with the phenomenal success of Vice Ganda’s movies the Phenomenal Box Office Star award was born.
Vice was the first recipient of the award in 2012 for his top-grossing film The Unkabogable Private Benjamin.
It was then followed by all his MMFF entries Sisterakas (2013), Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy (2014), The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin (2015), Beauty and the Bestie (2016), The Super Parental Guardians (2017), Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad, and Fantastica (2018).
However for 2019, the Phenomenal Box Office Star award was given to Alden Richards and Kathryn Bernardo for their phenomenal box office hit film Hello, Love, Goodbye.
Hello, Love, Goodbye now holds the record for being the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time after amassing 1.3 billion pesos in national and international gross receipts.
