Veteran TV actress Lotlot de Leon recently commended her daughter Janine Gutierrez’s activism in light of the current issues in the country.
The 30-year-old Kapuso actress and model lent her voice to the Independence Day protest action against controversial anti-terror bill, which was signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Muntik na akong hindi makadalo sa mañanita dahil napakahigpit ng bouncers! Pero sa huli, nakaabot din. Happy independence day, Pilipinas. Mahal ka namin ♥️ pic.twitter.com/JUtaUpvEan

Known as a critic of the Duterte administration, the actress has also voiced out her concerns online about the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis in the country, as well as the shutdown of broadcast network ABS-CBN.
During a media conference on Tuesday for the iWant original series Beauty Queens, Lotlot commented that her daughter’s activism only shows her awareness of the issues in the country.
“It’s very important that before you comment about anything, pag-aralan mo muna ‘yun. I trust my daughter. She speaks because she knows what she’s talking about, because she believes in something. Kasi may prinsipyo siya bilang Pilipino,” Lotlot said.
Though she noted, “Not everyone will agree with what we all have to say. Merong mga iba na hindi aayon sa mga opinyon natin, meron namang iba na umaayon.”
Lotlot stressed the importance of being an observant Filipino and voicing out of opinions as long as it is unhostile.
“Pero ang importante kasi, bilang Pilipino, ‘yung karapatan na mag-obserba sa kung ano sa palagay mo ang tama o mali na nangyayari sa bansa natin. Puwede ka naman maghayag ng opinyon mo nang hindi bastos,” de Leon said.
Lotlot lastly expressed her support to Janine saying that she was proud of her being a principled woman.
She said, “I think she should just continue what she’s doing, and be the principled woman that she is. I’m very proud of her for doing that.”
