Netizens slam Rep. LRay Villafuerte’s proposal for gov’t to use ABS-CBN frequencies

Villafuerte’s proposal came after the House legislative franchises committee junked ABS-CBN franchise application via 70-11 vote on Friday, July 10.

Netizens have aired their dislike of the proposal by Deputy Speaker LRay Villafuerte to lend ABS-CBN frequencies to the government to be used for alternative distance learning.

On Wednesday, July 15, CamSure Rep. Villafuerte filed House Resolution No. 1044 aiming to allow the government to use vacant television and radio frequencies for remote learning.

“Inequality and inaccessibility of opportunities such as those pertaining to internet connectivity and possession of a laptop pose a variety of challenges for teachers and learners,” he said.

“The unused frequencies may also be used for information on COVID-19 prevention and control, risk reduction and preparedness,” he added.

Villafuerte’s proposal came after the House legislative franchises committee junked ABS-CBN franchise application via 70-11 vote on Friday, July 10.

While House leaders maintained that the decision to deny ABS-CBN’s franchise was not personal for each congressman who voted despite clear testimonies from different government agencies that ABS-CBN didn’t violate any laws or provisions of their franchise, moves like Villafuerte’s became suspect as to the real intention of the denial.

Meanwhile, here are the reactions from the netizens on Villafuerte’s proposal.
