Although Nadine Lustre acknowledges that Filipino resilience is something to be proud of, she believes it should not be used to distract focus from problems facing the Philippines.

Nadine could not help but respond to netizens who continue to use the word “Filipino resilience” whenever difficulties are faced by the nation.

In the midst of the widespread destruction of Typhoon Ulysses, the actress and singer posted her sentiments on Instagram.

“Our country has been thru so much issues (calamity, pandemic, economy, job losses) and it upsets me so much when people pull out ‘Filipino Resiliency’ as a quick fix.”

“It’s def something to be proud of, but really, how long are we gonna keep using that to hide the real problem?”

She then shared her concern for those affected badly by the storm that caused many to leave their homes.

“I feel for our brothers and sisters who are gravely affected by everything that’s happening.
Our country deserves so much better than this 😢”

The actress believes that Filipinos doesn’t only deserve the Filipino resiliency that we always have,
“Now if you’re scrolling on your phone & seeing all the heartbreaking news but really dgaf cuz you’re not so much affected by the all stuff, PLS check your privilege.”

Netizens agreed with Nadine and let their thoughts be known.

Ginagalit niyo si Madame President Nadine Lustre!!! Check your privilege, kids! Stop romanticizing resiliency, start demanding accountability!

Filipino Resiliency will never be enough but accountability and leadership is what we need the most.

Just like what Nadine Lustre said a day ago, we cannot count always on the resiliency of the Filipinos. With the current situation of Cagayan Valley, we really need accountability and strong leadership to help our fellow Filipinos. #CagayanNeedsHelp #UlyssesPh#RescuePh pic.twitter.com/IACDrgpAxG

Akala ko talaga mahina lang yung signal ko kaya blurry. Eto lang pala talaga sya. 😂

But kidding aside, #NadineLustre is absolutely right! We deserve a better Philippines and a better government. Pls don't use the "Resiliency card" on us and check ur privilege!#ulysessph pic.twitter.com/HE3vMOzcHo

From Wednesday night until last Friday, Typhoon Ulysses battered parts of Luzon. The damage it caused was similar to that of Typhoon Ondoy in 2009.

Marikina was one of the hardest hit by the typhoon as with Ondoy. Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro sought assistance in rescue efforts from the national government, explaining that the resources of his city were “over-stretched.”

The city is currently in a state of calamity, which will allow the city government to use its calamity funds to help the affected residents and provide a price control mechanism for basic commodities.
