During the “Honest Questions” segment of Kapamilya actor Enchong Dee with his guest, fellow Kapamilya Joshua Garcia, there was one particular question that intrigued many viewers. Did Joshua plan to leave ABS-CBN during its lowest point?
Enchong asked Joshua what his worries were during ABS-CBN’s fight for survival.
It can be recalled that Garcia was not active in participating in protests nor using his influence to gain support for the TV station.
Enchong, to clarify, said that Joshua gave all of his support to the network.
“Kasi nung nakausap kita (Joshua), sabi sakin ni Joshua, ‘I support ABS-CBN’. Pero hindi kasi siya yung taong would go out there, voice out and rally,” Enchong said.
“But 100% yung suporta niya sa lahat ng kapamilya natin,” he added.
Moreover, Enchong stated that some people may be not as vocal as he is, and that is something that he needed to accept.
“I have to understand and I have to accept the fact that iba-iba tayo. Na if I’m vocal, someone can be not,” said Enchong.
Meanwhile, Garcia admitted that upon hearing the news that the network was having problems renewing its franchise, he already accepted such a fact.
“Parang tinanggap ko sa sarili ko na magsasara na rin yung kumpanya. Siguro meron pa rin pero ilan-ilan. Pero hindi na katulad dati na kaliwa’t kanan ginagawa,” explained Joshua.
He also explained that despite his absence when his fellow Kapamilyas started rallies, he totally supported the fight for the network. He even messaged Chief Operating Officer of Broadcast for ABS-CBN, Cory Vidanes to express his support.
“Hindi ako pumunta sa mga rally rally. Pero 100% na nakasuporta ako. Minimessage ko pa sila tita Cory na nasa likod lang nila ako,” said Joshua.
Now here comes the question: did he plan to transfer to another network?
It can be recalled that before and after ABS-CBN’s shutdown, an exodus of talents went to other networks in order to survive the ongoing pandemic.
With that in mind, Joshua also thought of the same—to leave ABS-CBN.
“Sumagi sa isip ko, yeah,” he admitted.
However, he couldn’t do it. He explained that he treated the network as family. Therefore, he couldn’t leave the network. He also said that his loyalty towards the TV station is unparalleled.
“Hindi ko magawa. Ibang relationship yung nabuild ko with ABS (CBN) eh. Parang naging pamilya ko sila eh. Parang di ko kayang iwan. Mananatili yung loyalty ko nasa ABS (CBN),” stated the actor.
Still, it worries him that his primary source of income will be gone. Therefore, he had such thoughts.
“Siguro nadala lang ako dahil magsasara na yung ABS, may pandemic pa kailangan kong kumita ng pera para sa pamilya ko. Eventually nagiging okay din lahat eh. Unti-unti,” added Joshua.
Being the only person who his family relies on for their living expenses, the actor was concerned about what would happen to his family. He shared that he even went back to studying, taking up Entrepreneurship at Southville International School affiliated with Foreign Universities (SISFU)
“Especially ako yung breadwinner di ba. So sakin umaasa yung family ko. Andami kong iniisip na options. Sabi ko tuloy ko pag-aaral ko. So tinuloy ko pag-aaral ko. Nag-aaral ako sa SISFU ngayon, B.S. in Entrep [Entrepeneurship],” he shared.
Still, despite the shutdown and the loss of his primary income, Joshua never left the network. Instead, he made some options available for him to earn funds since it is his primary concern in order to feed his family. He thought of entering the business world especially real estate.
“Sabi ko sa’yo (Enchong) dumaan lang sa isip ko na gusto na kong lumipat. Pero feeling ko pinaparealize sakin na marami pa akong pwedeng gawin, na marami pa akong pwedeng gawin. Na pwede kong pagkunan ng income. Kasi yun lang naman ang nag-worry sakin eh, yung income. Tapos nagtatanong-tanong ako kung anong magandang business. Kaya nga nagtanong ako sa’yo (Enchong) about real estate di ba?” said Joshua.
