In the press conference for the upcoming movie Tililing, director Darryl Yap thanked the cast members for remaining silent amid all the bashing they received for the movie poster that went viral.
Recently, Yap released a poster design for the film that received backlash from Liza Soberano and the Commission on Human Rights.
First, Yap addressed the cast, especially the actors. He then apologized for the backlash they received on social media and for potentially endangering their endorsements.
“Bago po ako mag-promote gusto ko lang kunin ang pagkakataong ito lalong lalo na para sa aking mga artista, mula kay Yumi, Chad, Baron, Tita Gina, lalong lalo na kay Donnalyn at Candy. Kahit hindi nyo kailangan, kahit hindi nyo hingin, ako yung humihingi ng paumanhin kung kayo ay nalagay sa alanganin sa inyong mga taga-sunod, taga-subaybay at kahit sa inyong mga endorsements.”
He also pointed that the cast chose to remain silent not to offend anyone, especially Viva.
“Alam ko na ang pagmamahal nyo sa akin ay nag-bunsod sa inyo para manahimik, at hindi maka-offend ng kahit sinong mula sa Viva,” said Yap.
Yap then thanked the cast, noting that he knew how difficult it was for the actors not to defend themselves amid the issue.
“Ako’y humihingi ng paumanhin alam kong mahirap na hindi ipagtanggol ang sarili, mahirap sumagot sa bashing sa mga nanghuhusga pero dahil sa inyong pagmamahal at respeto nanatili kayong tahimik. Aking ipinagpapasalamat yun lalo na sa inyo,” said Yap.
Earlier, actresses Gina Pareño and Candy Pangilinan received backlash from people who found it contradictory to what they advocate for and chided their advocacy for mental health awareness.
Aside from Pareño and Pangilinan, Tililing also features Baron Geisler, Chad Kinis, Donnalyn Bartolome, Yumi Lacsamana, Cai Cortez, Rez Cortez, and Liz Gonzaga. It will be available via Viva Max and Cinemas on March 5.
