On September 28, Director Chad Vidanes reacted to people associating his success in directing with his mom ABS-CBN Chief Operating Officer Cory Vidanes.
During the media conference for Maalaala Mo Kaya’s October 2021 episodes, Direk Chad said he has no problems with those types of comments.
“To be honest po, sobrang dami ko pang dapat matutunan. Just starting off, I’m luckily na ‘yung mga nakatrabaho ko ay hindi rin ako napabayaan. And, ayun po parang ako, ayaw kong, I always tell myself na never stop learning talaga. Even if ano ba, no matter what people say.
“Na-appreciate ko rin po na nagbago na ‘yung pananaw ng iba pero okay lang po wala naman po siyang problem sa akin. And it’s given na hindi naman po siya mawawala.”
He also clarified that he first worked with Star Cinema to veer away from biased opinions.
“You can’t please everyone, naman po. That’s why I really started with Star Cinema, to veer away from that kind of bias opinion. ‘Yun nga po, although it’s the same domain, it’s a whole different world inside ABS-CBN.”
As for his MMK stint, Direk Chad admitted that he has always wanted to direct an episode from the anthology series.
“Ito lang po syempre, noong hinikayat akong mag-MMK, ay syempre, alam naman po natin kung ano ang MMK sa industriya. So syempre hindi ko naman po pwede tanggihan. It’s a pleasure for me to be given a chance to work in MMK.
“Ever since naman po noong I found my path in the entertainment industry and I found my calling in directing, sabi ko syempre, dapat ako makapagdirect man lang ako kahit isang episode ng MMK.”
Direk Chad also shared the challenge they faced filming their respective episodes during the pandemic.
“Well, syempre, the most challenging and most important thing is the safety of everyone on set talaga. That is the utmost priority na syempre we want to deliver or give justice to the stories we want to tell and share, but syempre we’re still handling people’s lives eh. Syempre, the [most] challenge is to keep everyone safe from any harm.”
As for his directorial debut, He’s Into Her, Direk Chad said he would always consider the project as his ‘first baby.’
“He’s Into Her is my first project, my first baby as a director naman. Every project has a special place in my heart even if noong nagte-training pa ako kasi that’s my roots di ba? That’s where I learned everything I know. But He’s Into Her will have a [very] special place in my heart kasi nga it’s my first baby.”
Direk Chad spearheads the October 2 episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya alongside Jeremiah Lisbo and Lotlot De Leon. Their episode tackles the life story of Pinoy Big Brother Housemate Ralph Malibunas.
