Maid in Malacañang star Diego Loyzaga, on Sunday, July 17, concluded that the history books had told a “very one-sided” story of the Marcoses.
Loyzaga, who plays the now-President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr, in the press conference of the upcoming Darryl Yap movie, discovered who the real Bongbong is.
“I learned a lot because of this movie. First off, researching on sir Bongbong, unang-una, makikita diyan is yung mayroon sa YouTube, and mayroon sa mga history books; but I stuck on YouTube, documentaries. It’s very one-sided.
“Although I did learn that side and I studied completely. But the studies, and being you know, center-stage, hearing their stories, of how their family was, their dynamic, how was sir Bongbong in his 30s, and how they work back in the 80s,” he explained.
History books have omitted how the Marcoses lived during their reign as the First Family and in the movie, the actor had the chance to learn about their way of life.
“I also learned another side of the Marcoses—how were they as a family, how were they as Filipinos, and what was their dynamic at home, in Malacanang?” the actor said. “For me, it was very beautiful because it was a chance to portray (Bongbong).”
Aside from the dynamics and Marcos Jr’s character, the artist discovered that he is also a loving son and sibling.
“One great thing that I liked about sir Bongbong Marcos is how much a loving son he was to his parents, how close he was to his mom, mama’s boy siya, and how much he love his loved ones.
“Hindi lang sa mom and dad niya, pati sa mga kapatid niya. He wanted to be there talaga. Makikita mo iyan sa story na 2 hours, he wanted to be there for his family. He was prepared to do anything and fight for his family.”
To prepare for his role, Loyzaga shared that he used to watch Marcos Jr’s monologues, as well as throw lines with Teresa, his mother.
He also sought help from Yap and listened to Sen. Imee Marcos’s stories.

The movie also stars Cesar Montano, Ruffa Gutierrez, Christine Reyes, Ella Cruz, and Karla Estrada. Elizabeth Oropesa, Beverly Salviejo, Kiko Estrada, and Kyle Velino are also part of the cast.
