On June 25, Ruffa Gutierrez recalled her meeting with Imelda Marcos when she was 18 years old.
At the media conference for Maid in Malacañang, Ruffa recounted attending Imelda’s birthday party dressed as the former first lady.
“Well, I first met Madam Imelda Marcos when I was only 18 years old. It was her birthday party at the Manila Hotel, and they asked us to dress as Imelda Marcos and syempre doon pa lang nagpa-picture na ako.
“I’ve always been a fan of her, because she’s a woman of glamor, she’s a woman of substance. And she has golden heart–she has pure golden heart, and I can see that she knows how to practice grace under pressure.”
She also added the list of questions she wanted to as Imelda if they meet again.
“So for me–if I see her again, I would ask what is her beauty secret. Because she still looks so young and fresh at her age.
“I also want to ask her another thing, of course, how does it feel that she was able live, and watch her son, her favorite son, President Bongbong Marcos, he’s going to be the next president of our country. So ano kaya ang feeling niya about that.”
Ruffa also cited her similarities with Imelda, such as being a beauty queen.
“And things we have in common, we’re both Cancerians. I was born June 24–she’s July 2, her birthday is coming up. We’re both beauty queens, Miss Manila, Miss Philippines, Miss World Runner Up. She love to sing–she loves to dance, I do too. The problem is I don’t have a voice like her– so I have to take singing lessons. So marami talaga, I’m just honored to be playing Madam Imelda.”
Ruffa stars in the upcoming Viva movie Maid in Malacañang. Her stellar co-stars include Cesar Montano, Ruffa Gutierrez, Cristine Reyes, Diego Loyzaga, Ella Cruz, Karla Estrada, Beverly Salviejo, and Elizabeth Oropesa.
