The Songbird thanked Vhong Navarro’s care for her husband on It’s Showtime.
OPM chief Ogie Alcasid had a very special double episode-guesting on the morning talk show, Magandang Buhay, this week (August 25 and August 26). During the said episodes, the show invited two more special guests to grace Alcasid’s early birthday celebration. His birthday is today, August 27.
Vhong Navarro already surprised Alcasid with his unannounced guesting, but he surprised him further, with his heartfelt message on Alcasi’s birthday.
The two recalled how their friendship developed through It’s Showtime, and how the rest of the show’s hosts became Alcasid’s new family.
Velasquez took the chance to thank Navarro, for welcoming her husband to their already tight family on It’s Showtime. She noted that she is particularly very thankful for Navarro’s being her husband’s new partner after Michael V. and Janno Gibbs.
“Nakakatuwa silang tingnan as tandem. ‘Yung asawa ko kasi lagi siyang may ka-tandem, di ba? Si Janno, si Bitoy, ako…tapos natuwa ako nagkaroon ng Vhong, tapos napunta siya sa It’s Showtime. Kasi, I remember na dream niya ‘yun eh…pinapanood niya ‘yung It’s Showtime.
“(I am delighted seeing them as a tandem. As you all know, my husband works best in tandem. He had Janno, Bitoy, and me… so when Vhong arrived, I was really glad, especially when he joined It’s Showtime. I remember that it was his dream, he was a fan of the show),” she shared.
“Sa sobrang enjoy niya, tuwang tuwa ako (He was enjoying being part of the show too much, that it also made me very happy).”
Velasquez-Alcasid underscored her husband’s new hosting gig, noting the tighter and more genuine family he found in It’s Showtime.
“Tuwang tuwa ako, kasi alam ko na gustong-gusto niya na maging part ng It’s Showtime family and I am so happy, that he found that family. Kasi di ba dito sa ABS-CBN, magkakapamilya naman talaga tayo, pero ‘yung kapag you belong in one group or oneshow, mas iba ‘yung bonding eh.
“(I am sincerely happy because I know that he really wanted to be part of the show and I am glad that he found that family. As you may know, we’re already one big family here in ABS-CBN, but the family you find in a group or a show, is really different),” she said.
She recognized Navarro’s efforts to take care of his husband.
“Natutuwa ako kay Vhong kasi pinoprotect niya palagi ‘yung asawa ko. ( I am really happy because Vhong always protects my husband).”
“Thank you Vhong, dahil sobrang love mo ang asawa ko, sobrang love din kita. Kasi mahal na mahal niya ang asawa ko, and I love you Vhong for that” she added.
Navarro, meanwhile, shared that even after Alcasid became an It’s Showtime regular, he promised to make sure the OPM icon would be comfortable with his new role as a host.
“Actually si Kuya Ogie bago pa pumasok sa Showtime as a regular host, syempre TNT hurado na siya eh…sinabihan ko na ‘yan. Sabi ko, Kuya Ogie, ganito ha, bumato ka lang nang bumato, ako bahala sayo.
“(Actually before Ogie joined It’s Showtime as a host, from being just a TNT judge, I already told him that I got his back every time he would tell a joke),” Navarro recalled.
Alcasid joined ABS-CBN in 2016. In 2021, after a five-year stint as a Tawag ng Tanghalan judge, he officially joined the noontime show, It’s Showtime, as a new regular host. He turns 55 on August 27.
