Why You Should See It:
Ang Lalaki sa Likod ng Profile may have fallen short to living up to the mystery behind its title, but this adorable romance comedy is a complete charmer that’s packed with heartwarming intrigues, at the very least. The third web series produced by the grocery and supermarket chain, Puregold, it follows certified ‘torpe’, Bryce, who embarked on a girlfriend-finding adventure, with the help of a stranger he met online. Irresistibly sweet and unutterably chuckle-worthy, this Wilbert Ross-starrer cruises satisfyingly through its first seven episodes (so far), packing solid and hefty packages of charm in every scene.
Bryce is the only child of a wealthy businesswoman, who is very keen in getting him a girlfriend. To halt his mother’s master plan of pairing him up with the daughter of his business partner, he enlists the help of an online friend to improve his chance of getting the girl he personally likes. Bryce has two adorable friends, Genski (Kat Galang) and Ketch (Migs Almendras), who are as prepared as ever, to help their best friend get out of his misery. It is Angge (Yukii Takahashi), however, whom he finds to be the best ‘wingman’ in getting the right girl. But what if she is the right girl? Signs are screaming as early as the they made their first exchange of hellos.
It is thoroughly lovely, with its affectionate humor that for some reason, just lights up anybody’s day. Hilarious one-liners get dropped like bombs to deliver just pure packets of comic energy. Thanks to the totally animated support characters, including Bruce’s mom, which is played by Marisa Sanchez, as well as Moi Marcampo’s Chilli Anne, the girl Bryce’s mom’s prefers, there is practically an unlimited supply of something to smile about, in Ang Lalaki sa Likod Ng Profile. That said, the series is already effortlessly charming, by the irresistible chemistry between Ross and Takahashi, alone.
Admittedly, Ang Lalaki Sa Likod ng Profile, is as romcom as any love story about two souls who are just waiting for the right timing to meet. The mystery may not be as exciting as one might expect, but how this series does not fall short of warmth, comfort, and spark, is more than enough to serve as a compelling invitation.
