Kapamilya actress and ‘It’s Showtime’ host Anne Curtis expressed pride in how the noontime variety show has become a platform for discussing important social issues.
In a post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Curtis shared a clip from a recent episode where her co-hosts engaged in a discussion about the education crisis in the Philippines following a viral moment involving a contestant’s lack of knowledge about the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
“Why I love our Showtime. Yes, playtime, tawanan, fun contests but also a platform well used to educate, inform, and ignite conversations about issues that should be spoken out,” Curtis wrote.

During the discussion, Vice Ganda highlighted the gravity of the situation, questioning the country’s education system and the role of the public in addressing it.
“May educational crisis sa Pilipinas na dapat nating i-address… Sana maisip natin na ‘Bakit gano’n? Saan kaya nagsisimula ang education crisis ng Pilipinas? Ito ba ay dapat lang pagtawanan natin? Ito’y dapat lang ba nating pagchikahan sa Twitter in one day and then tapos na?’” Vice Ganda remarked.
He further emphasized the importance of starting conversations about these pressing concerns.
“Gaano na kalaki ang crisis na ito for now? Kaya maganda na napag-uusapan natin. Alam mo iyon ‘yung pinakamagandang nangyari. For me, hindi man masyadong masaya, at least it started a conversation,” he added.
Fellow host Amy Perez, also known as Tyang Amy, underlined the importance of public awareness and civic engagement.
“‘Yung pagkakaroon ng pakialam. May mga bagay na kagaya no’n na napakahalaga na dapat may pakialam tayo,” she said.
The discussion stemmed from a viral moment on ‘It’s Showtime’, when a contestant in the ‘Sexy Babe’ segment admitted to being unfamiliar with Comelec and revealed that she was not yet a registered voter.
Following the incident, Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia expressed concern over the contestant’s response, acknowledging the need for stronger voter education efforts. In response, Comelec invited the contestant for an educational tour to better understand the electoral process.
“We fully understand her. Maaring madami pa na katulad niya na kabataan o mga Filipino. It is our solemn duty to explain who we are and what we are doing,” Garcia said.
He further emphasized that this situation reflects a broader issue that needs attention, stating, “It is our failure we have to rectify.”
Despite her busy schedule, Anne Curtis remains an active part of ‘It’s Showtime’, where she has been a mainstay since 2009.
