Eraserheads guitarist Marcus Adoro is stepping away from the band’s upcoming activities following renewed allegations of abuse circulating on social media.
In a statement released on April 6, Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia addressed the issue via a social media post shared in collaboration with ‘Eraserheads: Combo on the Run’ director Diane Ventura.
“We acknowledge the recent allegations that have surfaced online. As proponents of justice, we unequivocally condemn all criminal acts and stand against abuse of any form. Above all, we seek the truth,” Buendia wrote.
“As Marcus makes time to address the matter at hand, he will be stepping back from the upcoming project. We move forward with humility and deep respect for the truth and social responsibility.”
The announcement came in response to a viral Reddit post by a user identified as @NMomThrowaway12345, who accused Adoro of raping her while she was still in high school. The post, titled “The beloved Marcus Adoro of the Eraserheads raped me when I was in high school,” also referenced other women who were allegedly victimized by the guitarist. The user accused Adoro of being a “known and recorded abuser of women,” referencing past allegations made by his ex-partner, actress Barbara Ruaro, and his daughter, singer-songwriter Syd Hartha.
In 2019, both Syd and Ruaro publicly spoke about experiencing physical and emotional abuse from Adoro. Syd wrote in a now-deleted Facebook post, “Hinding-hindi ko makakalimutan iba’t ibang klase ng abuso na dinanas ko sa kanya.” Marcus later issued a public apology through an open letter addressed to his daughter.
The Reddit user also criticized the Eraserheads members, as well as Ventura, for allowing Adoro to participate in the band’s ongoing projects and alleged attempts to “sanitize” his reputation for commercial gain.
“It’s also saddening — but not surprising — to see that Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, and Raimund Marasigan have no principles… Pa-Spolarium Spolarium pa kayo, mga ipokrito,” the user wrote.
As of writing, Marcus Adoro has not publicly addressed the latest allegations.
The band is currently promoting their documentary film ‘Combo on the Run’, which premiered in March. It chronicles the group’s rise to fame, their disbandment, and their much-celebrated 2022 reunion concert ‘Ang Huling El Bimbo’, which drew over 60,000 fans.
Despite Adoro’s absence, the Eraserheads are still set to perform at the ‘Electric Fun Music Festival’ on May 31 at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Parañaque, with supporting acts including Itchyworms, Moonstar88, Imago, Dong Abay Music Organization, and Blaster.
