Kapuso actress Carla Abellana opened up about a deeply personal experience involving her beloved dog and a former partner she described as a “narcissistic ex,” echoing the viral story of a netizen whose pet also suffered during an abusive relationship.

In the comment section of an Instagram post by a fellow pet lover, Carla shared that one of her own dogs had also endured abuse from a past partner.
The original post featured a two-slide story showing the transformation of the netizen’s dog before and after escaping an abusive home. The pet, once withdrawn and sickly, regained her appetite and joy after moving out with her owner.
The caption read in part: “Her ears were always shot back… Her appetite went from food fiend to missing meals multiple days a week… This was Penny a few months after moving into our new place… Her ears perked back up. And she hasn’t missed a meal since the day we left.”
Moved by the story, Carla commented: “I had 3 dogs back then (now I have 6), 1 of which was the most abused by my Narcissistic ex. It took 7 and a half years for me to wake up and I still regret not getting out earlier. I was blind for that long.”
She went on to describe the trauma her pets experienced: “Now, my dogs no longer shake out of terror, hide behind me or underneath the bed, cling to me whenever they’re afraid, no more tails tucked underneath their bodies, and no more ears pushed back.”
Carla did not name the ex in her statement, but many netizens speculated it referred to her ex-husband Tom Rodriguez.
The term “narcissist,” as described by psychologists, refers to someone with an inflated sense of self-importance, a lack of empathy, and a tendency to manipulate or control others—traits that can be damaging not only to human relationships but even to animals in the household.
Meanwhile, Carla continues to earn praise online for speaking out—not just about personal matters, but also as a vocal advocate for everyday consumer rights. Recently, netizens dubbed her the “Patron Saint of Concerned Citizens” following her social media callouts against major service providers.
She previously aired her frustrations over a disconnection notice from PrimeWater, citing that their water supply was unreliable anyway. Despite the inconvenience, she paid the bill, highlighting the irony of being charged for something inconsistently provided.
Shortly after, Carla called out Converge ICT via X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Please reach out to me directly. It has been a week since my entire street’s wifi has been down due to the wires that collapsed a week ago… I’ve lost count of how many ticket numbers I have from all the reporting to your bots.”
Her outspokenness has earned admiration from the public.
