As backlash continues to swirl online over BINI’s appearance on the YouTube channel People Vs. Food, fellow Star Magic artist Sharlene San Pedro came to the girl group’s defense through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).

In a pointed post, Sharlene wrote, “pa rant.. bakit kaya ang daming taong nagrereact at humuhusga sa naka trim down na video? kahit di niyo pa naman napanuod yung buong video sa yt ” — clearly alluding to the viral episode where BINI rated iconic Filipino snacks. While she didn’t directly mention names, fans quickly deduced she was talking about BINI.
She continued, “saka hello di talaga lahat ng pinoy ay trip ang lahat ng filipino food. ” and later added, “panay ride niyo sa hate train kasi relevant yung subject ”

The video, titled ‘BINI Tries & Rates Filipino Snacks!’ featured the eight-member girl group sampling local favorites like isaw, betamax, kwek-kwek, taho, and hopiang baboy. Some members expressed hesitation or distaste, prompting backlash from netizens who labeled them “maarte,” “plastic,” and “out of touch.”
Clips of members saying things like “I haven’t tried this” or “I don’t want to” when served betamax (grilled coagulated chicken blood) and hopiang baboy (pork-filled pastry) became lightning rods for online criticism, especially on Reddit and X, where some accused the group of acting “too K-pop” or denying their Filipino roots.
In response to the growing negativity, Sharlene eventually locked the replies on her tweet, saying, “guys ayoko ng nagpupuksaan iooff ko na yung replies ko ”

While the group has yet to issue an official statement, fans of BINI have rallied behind them, defending their right to express honest reactions to food — even if it’s Filipino — and calling out the double standards and unnecessary hate they’re receiving.
Some netizens pointed out that food preferences are subjective and that disliking certain dishes doesn’t equate to rejecting one’s culture. Others criticized how edited clips from a longer video were being taken out of context to fuel outrage.
As of now, Star Magic and BINI’s management have not released an official statement. However, many are expecting a response soon, especially as the discussion continues to trend online.
