Geely’s Auto China Showcase Puts Robotaxis, Hybrid Efficiency, and Future EVs in Focus

Geely Auto Group showcased its purpose-built Robotaxi prototype, new i-HEV hybrid technology, and future electric vehicle lineup at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, with Philippine dealer principals and banking executives from Geely Motor Philippines among the global partners who witnessed the presentations firsthand.

For Filipino car buyers weighing their next vehicle, the technologies on display offer a concrete preview of where the brand is heading: self-charging hybrids that work without any charging infrastructure, AI-assisted driving systems already certified for international markets, and an expanding electric vehicle lineup across multiple segments — all developed within the same global group that backs Geely Motor Philippines.

The Beijing International Automotive Exhibition — one of the world’s largest auto shows — served as the backdrop for Geely’s most comprehensive technology showcase to date. Geely’s presence in Hall A1 brought together the group’s product and technology direction across its brands, giving international partners and media a look at where the One Geely strategy is heading in terms of intelligent mobility, electrification, and next-generation driving systems.

Chuanhai Li, Vice President of Geely Auto Group and President of the Geely Research Institute, described the group’s technology commitment. “With comprehensive efforts put on our R&D systems, leading technologies, and product portfolio, we are fully committed to winning the market and future together with global partners,” he said. At Auto China 2026, that commitment was on display in two technologies that represent the group’s direction in both autonomous mobility and efficient combustion: the Eva Cab Robotaxi prototype and the i-HEV hybrid powertrain.

The Eva Cab is what Geely describes as China’s first natively developed, purpose-built autonomous Robotaxi prototype. Unlike competitor test vehicles adapted from existing production cars, the Eva Cab was engineered specifically for driverless commercial operation. It is built on Geely’s L4-level AI digital architecture and runs the company’s G-ASD intelligent driving system, which Geely says earlier this year became the first Chinese-developed driver assistance system to receive European regulatory certification under the UN R171 standard. A version customized for Geely’s ride-hailing subsidiary Cao Cao Mobility is targeted for mass production in 2027.

The other major technology showcased was the i-HEV — Intelligent Hybrid Electric Vehicle — powertrain. For Filipino drivers, its most practical feature is that it requires no external charging. The i-HEV charges its own battery while driving, through the engine and energy recovery under braking, making it directly usable in markets where EV charging infrastructure is still being built. Geely says the system achieves a thermal efficiency of 48.41% — a figure the company says has been independently verified — while a test using the system in a Guinness World Record-verified evaluation recorded fuel consumption of 2.22 liters per 100 kilometers. Applied to the Geely Preface sedan, real-world WLTC-rated fuel consumption comes in at 3.98 liters per 100 kilometers. The system is already in mass production.

Auto China 2026 also featured product showcases from across the Geely group’s brand portfolio. Zeekr presented the 009, its flagship intelligent electric MPV. Lynk & Co introduced the 10 EV. Geely Galaxy presented its concept direction for intelligent electric vehicles. Together, the showcases reflected the group’s product pipeline across vehicle segments and energy types — from full electric to hybrid — and signaled the direction of Geely’s model development for international markets.

For Philippine dealer principals and banking executives, the Auto China 2026 showcases were the culmination of a wider program that covered Geely’s strategy sessions in Hangzhou and manufacturing infrastructure in Ningbo before arriving on the Beijing show floor. The technologies on display — particularly the self-charging i-HEV system — represent a direction that is directly relevant to the Philippine market, where hybrid vehicles that do not require charging infrastructure offer a practical path toward greater fuel efficiency for everyday drivers.

For Geely Motor Philippines and its partners, Auto China 2026 provided more than a product preview. It offered a firsthand look at the R&D investment and product pipeline behind the brand — and gave Philippine dealers and banking executives a stronger, more informed basis for the confidence they bring to local customers.
