Actor and Senator Robin Padilla insisted that his long-running “Bad Boy” image in show business does not apply to his role in public service, saying he considers himself a “Good Boy” when it comes to politics.
Speaking to LionhearTV and other media outlets during the advance screening of his comeback action film ‘Bad Boy 3’, Padilla was asked whether he also considers himself a “Bad Boy” in the Senate.
The question came just hours after reports surfaced about an alleged commotion involving Padilla and Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla during a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on June 4.
The controversy stemmed from claims that Remulla allegedly tried to prevent invited witnesses, including 18 former Marines linked to the investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects, from entering the Senate. However, both camps later denied the reports, with Padilla clarifying that there was no issue between him and the Interior secretary.
Asked if he also carries the “Bad Boy” label in politics, Padilla drew a distinction between his screen persona and his work as a lawmaker.
“Ang Bad Boy sa politika kasi, ‘yan yung mga korap. ‘Yan, eh, hindi ako Bad Boy sa politika. Ako’y very Good Boy sa politika, kaya nga ang sabi nila, lagi akong maximum tolerance,” he said.
Padilla also admitted that despite his current role in government, he still finds greater joy in show business than in politics.
“Sa totoo lang po, mas masaya po sa showbiz kaysa politika. Malayong-malayo po. Iba nag ligaya po sa shooting.”
Reflecting on the demands of public service, the senator said politics carries a different kind of burden.
“Iba talaga itsura ko ‘pag politika. Pag politika, talagang dala mo ‘yong problema ng bayan, iba yung bigat. Showbiz, masarap eh. Kasi nag-e-entertain kayo ng tao, masaya ‘yong tao.”
During the same event, Padilla also hinted that if a fourth installment of the ‘Bad Boy’ franchise pushes through, he may pass the torch to his nephew, actor Daniel Padilla.
The idea was later echoed by Daniel’s father, actor Rommel Padilla, who revealed that plans for ‘Bad Boy 4’ are already being discussed.
