Globe turns BGC Cinema into a Pixar experience for ‘Toy Story 5’ screening

There’s something about Toy Story that makes even the most modern crowd feel a little younger again.

That familiar mix of nostalgia and excitement filled BHS Central Square Cinema as Globe Telecom hosted an exclusive student screening of Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, turning an ordinary movie outing into a fully immersive shared experience for students, media creators, and guests.

Even before the film began, the event already felt different from a typical screening. The cinema lobby carried a lively buzz—students in clusters snapping photos, exchanging predictions about the film, and revisiting memories of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of Pixar’s most iconic toy ensemble. For many in attendance, it wasn’t just another premiere; it was a return to a story they grew up with.

Globe elevated the experience by transforming the venue into a themed entertainment space that blended technology, play, and storytelling. Branded installations, interactive photo spots, and curated activity corners welcomed guests as soon as they entered, while free snacks and comfortable premium seating helped set a relaxed, celebratory tone. This reflected Globe’s ongoing focus on experience-driven activations that connect audiences beyond screens.

When the lights dimmed, the room shifted instantly into anticipation.

Directed by Andrew Stanton, Toy Story 5 brings the beloved franchise into a more contemporary conversation, exploring how childhood play evolves in a world increasingly shaped by technology. The story centers on Bonnie, who becomes deeply attached to a new smart tablet named Lilypad—sparking tension between traditional toys and digital companionship.

The theme struck a familiar chord with the student audience.

Throughout the screening, reactions in the cinema revealed just how closely the film mirrored real-life experiences. Light moments brought spontaneous laughter, while quieter scenes drew noticeable stillness as viewers followed the emotional shifts of characters navigating change, relevance, and belonging in a rapidly evolving world.

What stood out most was how the film balanced its playful tone with deeper reflection. Rather than presenting technology as purely disruptive, it explored the emotional complexity of growing up in a digital age—where screens are both tools and companions and where imagination constantly adapts to new forms of play.

Amid the film’s ensemble storytelling, one of the most talked-about highlights was the emotional reunion between Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The moment landed strongly with the audience, drawing visible emotional reactions across the theater. For longtime fans, it served as a reminder of how deeply these characters have been woven into different stages of life.

Visually, Pixar once again delivered a polished and expressive world, with detailed animation that amplified both the humor and emotional weight of the story. Every frame felt intentionally crafted for the big screen, reinforcing why theatrical experiences still matter in a streaming-heavy era.

Beyond the film itself, Globe’s hosting of the screening added another layer to the experience.

By gathering students in a shared physical space, the brand highlighted the importance of real-world connection in an increasingly digital environment. Ironically, a film about balancing screen time and human connection found its audience through a telecommunications company advocating meaningful, connected experiences.

It created a full-circle moment: technology enabling gathering, while a story inside the cinema questioned how much of life should be lived through technology itself.

As the credits rolled, the energy inside the theater didn’t fade—it simply shifted. Students lingered in their seats, discussing favorite scenes, emotional moments, and how the film reflected their own relationship with gadgets, games, and growing up in a connected world.

Outside the cinema, conversations continued, blending nostalgia with reflection.

In the end, Globe’s Toy Story 5 screening wasn’t just about watching a movie early—it was about experiencing it together. And for a franchise built on friendship, that might have been the most fitting way to welcome its newest chapter. (with reports from Aldrine Benitez)
