A Decade of Delivering: Growsari Marks 10 Years of Empowering the Sari-sari stores

While headlines are often dominated by stories of broken systems, institutional distrust, and compromised integrity, the neighborhood street corners of the Philippines tell a completely different story. It is a story of quiet, unyielding honest hard work.

This year, Growsari, the country’s leading B2B tech platform for sari-sari stores, celebrates its 10th anniversary. It marks a decade-long journey that began in 2016 as a small team operation catering to just three cities in Rizal. Today, it has scaled into a critical nationwide ecosystem that spans all regions of the Philippines, bridging a notoriously fragmented supply chain across the archipelago to empower over hundred thousands of sari-sari stores.

While micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are often viewed as the most vulnerable when times get tough, the neighborhood sari-sari store has uniquely defied the odds.

“With everything happening around us right now, the high prices, the hardships, all the uncertainty, things can feel incredibly heavy,” says ER Rollan, Growsari’s Co-Founder and CEO. “But if you walk down any street in the Philippines, a sari-sari store is still open. Years ago, people told us these stores would die out because of big supermarkets and modern convenience chains. They completely misjudged the Filipino tindera. An honest, grassroots business does something beautiful. It doesn’t just build and sustain a family; it actually shapes the character of the whole community. It’s built entirely on trust. When times get really hard, the tindera is the one extending credit, helping neighbors out, and holding the community together.”

Growsari has stayed true to its vision to support small store owners as they grow from a simple, small neighborhood store into a comprehensive one-stop shop for their community.

“For the past ten years, our job at Growsari hasn’t been to change that. It’s simply been to give them the tools and the digital armor they deserve so they can keep fighting and keep standing,”

By giving store owners access to affordable inventory at great prices, free delivery straight to their doorstep, and the ability to offer their customers services like mobile load, bills payment, and cash-in, and access to credit, Growsari makes sure no sari-sari store is left behind.

Beyond its homegrown roots, Growsari has become a source of immense pride for the Philippine startup ecosystem. The platform’s ability to stabilize and elevate grassroots retail has attracted the long-term confidence of global institutional investors like KKR, IFC, and RRHI, who have backed Growsari not simply as a business opportunity, but as an essential, Filipino-built pillar of national MSME infrastructure.

As it marks this milestone, Growsari says its next chapter will be defined by the same mission that started it all: standing by the country’s smallest entrepreneurs, wherever they are.

“To our tinderas, please continue to be our biggest critics. Keep holding us accountable to the path that leads to a better, more secure future for all of us,” Rollan added. “The next ten years will bring new economic realities and hardships. But if the last decade has proven anything, it’s that when you invest in the character of the community, you build something that cannot be broken.”
