VMX star Angel Castro has shared a cautionary story about the dangers of fake eyelash extensions after revealing that she nearly lost her eyesight due to an eye infection.

During the media conference for her upcoming VMX project ‘Bagong Tukso 2.0,’ the actress explained why she struggled to maintain eye contact with members of the press and why bright lights continue to cause her discomfort.
According to Angel, the ordeal began after she had plastic eyelash extensions applied using adhesive glue.
The following morning, she woke up with severe pain in one of her eyes.
Seeking medical attention, she was informed by an ophthalmologist that her eye had sustained a corneal abrasion, or a scratch on the surface of the eye.
The actress admitted she became terrified after learning about her condition.
“Iyak ako nang iyak.”
She added that she feared she might permanently lose her vision.
Although her condition has improved, Angel said the pain still comes and goes, and she continues to experience sensitivity to bright lights, making it difficult for her to look directly at people during interviews.
She also revealed that she will eventually need surgery on one of her eyes, although the procedure has been postponed until her uric acid level is lowered.
Because of her experience, Angel urged the public to be extra cautious when getting eyelash extensions, particularly those using plastic lashes and adhesive products.
Her story echoes a similar experience previously shared by actress Andrea del Rosario, who also suffered an eye infection that was linked to eyelash extensions.
Medical experts generally advise that eyelash extensions should only be applied by trained professionals using hygienic techniques and approved products. Anyone who experiences persistent eye pain, redness, blurred vision, or light sensitivity after a cosmetic eye procedure should seek prompt evaluation from an eye specialist.

Aside from opening up about her health scare, Angel is also set to headline ‘Bagong Tukso 2.0,’ a 70-minute VMX special introducing the streaming platform’s newest batch of stars.
Joining Angel in the new lineup are Shalanie De Vera, Akira Takamura, Kim Yashii, and Shannon Sizon, who will each headline their own segments featuring personal stories, behind-the-scenes moments, and previews of their upcoming projects.
‘Bagong Tukso 2.0’ begins streaming July 14 exclusively on VMX.
