AirAsia Philippines has strengthened its partnership with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP) to further enhance passenger safety, combat travel-related fraud, and address emerging aviation security challenges. 
During a courtesy meeting at the PNP AVSEGROUP Headquarters, AirAsia Philippines Head of Security Larry Valdevilla and PNP AVSEGROUP Director PBGEN Dionisio B. Bartolome Jr., together with senior security officials from both organizations, discussed key initiatives aimed at making air travel safer, more secure, and more seamless for passengers.
Cracking Down on Fraudulent Travel Documents
A key priority raised by AirAsia Philippines was the growing concern over the use of fraudulent identification documents in air travel. Strengthening enforcement against document fraud helps protect legitimate travelers, safeguard airport security, and maintain the integrity of the aviation system.
In 2025 alone, AirAsia Philippines apprehended 114 individuals involved in cases of fraudulent travel documents and identity impersonation.

To strengthen efforts against travel fraud, PNP AVSEGROUP committed to coordinating with local authorities and deploying intelligence resources to investigate the sources of fraudulent identification documents and individuals or groups facilitating their use. These initiatives are already underway as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat travel-related fraud and enhance aviation security nationwide.

Improving Firearms Transport Procedures for Safer and Smoother Travel
Passengers travelling with firearms are required to present the appropriate permits, licenses, and supporting documents for verification by PNP AVSEGROUP Firearms Facilitators.
During the courtesy meeting, AirAsia Philippines Security raised concerns regarding the implementation of the firearms escort requirement. PNP AVSEGROUP acknowledged the concern and committed to increasing the deployment of Firearms Facilitators to ensure full compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and the continuous escort of firearms from acceptance through aircraft loading.
Strengthening Response Against Onboard Theft and Passenger Security Incidents Passenger protection against onboard theft was likewise a major agenda item. Both organizations discussed measures to strengthen incident response, evidence preservation, passenger assistance, and law enforcement coordination.
PNP AVSEGROUP shared lessons from actual cases and emphasized the importance of prompt reporting and documentation to support investigations and improve recovery efforts for affected passengers.
Expanding Inter-Agency Coordination
As part of the partnership, AirAsia Philippines and PNP AVSEGROUP agreed to strengthen communication and information-sharing mechanisms through the establishment of direct coordination channels and command center contacts for faster incident response. Both organizations likewise committed to:
● Conducting regular reviews of firearms facilitation processes and documentation; ● Organizing joint tabletop exercises involving firearms transport and onboard theft scenarios;
● Enhancing information-sharing arrangements in compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012.
The courtesy meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of AirAsia Philippines and PNP AVSEGROUP to maintaining the highest standards of aviation security through proactive collaboration, effective law enforcement coordination, and continuous improvement of security procedures.
