Australian singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jack Gray shares his heartbreaking new single “Safe Space,” arriving just weeks ahead of his long-awaited debut album, Swimming In Jeans, out September 11. Built around stark piano and a softly stirring chorus, the track explores the heartbreak of losing trust in the person who was once meant to be your refuge.
Produced and performed entirely by Gray, “Safe Space” puts his vocals and songwriting front and center as he reflects on the collapse of a relationship once defined by comfort and security. The song arrives with an intimate music video directed by Amanda Mickwee and produced by Jillian Shae Spaeder, featuring expressive choreography from dancers Samantha Bartow and Harley Grey. For Filipino listeners, the release marks another chapter in Gray’s growing connection with the Philippines and the artists and audiences he has encountered along the way.
Gray previously brought that connection closer to home with a visit to UMG Philippines, giving the Australian artist an opportunity to connect with the local team and immerse himself further in the country’s music scene. His ties to the Philippines continued through collaborations with artists from the UMG Philippines roster, bringing together his emotionally direct songwriting with emerging Filipino talent. Those creative exchanges have helped turn an international connection into an ongoing relationship between Gray and the Philippine music community. That relationship now extends beyond the studio, with Filipino artist Jenzen Guino joining Gray as a special guest on his Swimming In Jeans ANZ Album Tour this September. The collaboration puts Filipino talent alongside Gray as he takes his debut album era from Auckland across major cities in Australia.
The Swimming In Jeans Tour kicks off on September 4 in Auckland before heading to Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, with Gray’s Sydney show already sold out. Jenzen Guino joins the run as special guest, marking an exciting international stage for the Filipino artist and another milestone in Gray’s ties with the Philippines. The tour arrives as anticipation builds for Swimming In Jeans, a deeply personal debut that bottles the intensity, confusion and wonder of youth. Across the album, Gray transforms impulsive decisions, fleeting romances, heartbreak, self-discovery and growing pains into songs balancing playful storytelling with striking vulnerability. “Safe Space,” the album’s poignant closing track, follows previously released singles “Look At You,” “Dumb Sh*t,””Drive Her Home,” “Bluffin,” “Tattoos” and the title track “Swimming In Jeans.”
That same fearless songwriting instinct has taken Gray from recording songs in his childhood bedroom in Mackay, Queensland, to stages across Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US, Southeast Asia and Canada. Along the way, he has toured alongside artists including Tate McRae, Maren Morris, Jeremy Zucker, Daniel Seavey, Matt Corby, Maisie Peters, Good Neighbours and most recently Freya Skye. Now based in Los Angeles, the self-produced multi-instrumentalist has accumulated more than 3.6 million streams across his recent album singles, contributing to a catalogue that has surpassed 50 million global streams. Gray handles vocals, piano, bass and drums on “Safe Space,” reflecting the hands-on approach that runs throughout much of his debut album. His music pairs cinematic storytelling with emotional honesty, capturing the moments of uncertainty and change that come with growing up.
With Swimming In Jeans, Gray steps into his biggest chapter yet while continuing to build creative bridges between Australia, the Philippines and audiences around the world. The 12-track debut includes “The Deep End,” “Dumb Sh*t,” “Blind Lovin’,” “Swimming In Jeans,” “Bedroom Floor,” “Drive Her Home,” “Bluffin’,” “Tattoos,” “Look At You,” “In The Picture,” “Teen Jesus” and “Safe Space.” The album arrives worldwide on September 11, with “Safe Space” available to stream now alongside its official music video.
