Some Velvet Morning return with their fifth studio album, Tell The Summer Hang On, the latest chapter in a career that has taken the North London trio from rehearsing in a garden shed to international audiences.
Formed by brothers Desmond Lambert (vocals, guitar) and Gavin Lambert (bass, vocals) alongside drummer Rob Flanagan, Some Velvet Morning have built a reputation for crafting uplifting, anthemic rock inspired by artists such as Depeche Mode, Tears For Fears, Fleetwood Mac and Pink Floyd.
Their debut album, Silence Will Kill You, produced by Coldplay collaborator Rik Simpson, earned a Radio X Album of the Year nomination and spawned the radio favourites “Losing My Mind” and “Propaganda”. The band’s breakthrough anthem, “How To Start A Revolution”, gained worldwide exposure through the trailer for Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass and has since featured in major advertising campaigns for Renault and Aprilia across Europe.

Recorded over two years in London, Tell The Summer Hang On is a collection of songs with lyrical themes centred around transformation (“I Never Knew What Love Could Do”), renewal (“The Architect”) and the passage of time (“Tell The Summer Hang On”, “It’s Later Than We Know”). As the album title suggests, summer is a recurring theme about connection and life’s fleeting golden moments. Cameo appearances on the record include R&B singer Kele Le Roc and Wayne Fullwood (ex-Little Barrie).
“The new album is released as the band celebrates 25 years of working together,” says frontman, Desmond Lambert. “Our previous album, “Rough Seas”, was written during lockdown and has a darker tone. With this record, we were keen stretch what the band could do outside of the constraints of an indie rock trio. We’ve drawn on a wider variety of influences (some of them folk and country) to create a warmer record, which we hope will show a different side to the band”.
Over the years, Some Velvet Morning’s music has appeared in films including Filth, Kat And The Band and Love Without Walls, while becoming a familiar soundtrack on the BBC, Netflix (most recently on ‘Geek Girl’) and Sky Sports. Their albums Allies, Musical Chairs and Rough Seas have seen the band continue to evolve while staying true to their gift for memorable melodies and soaring choruses.
From film soundtracks and international advertising campaigns to festival stages and radio playlists, Some Velvet Morning have spent over two decades creating music designed to connect. Tell The Summer Hang On continues that journey with some of the band’s most ambitious and accomplished work to date.
