  • GMA Network is all-set to launch MyGMA Go, a DTT device that is affordable for people to afford it
  • The network is set to launch sometime this 2nd half of the year
  • MyGMA Go will cost around P500 each with company’s initial target of selling one million units nationwide and it comes with a mobile application that can be downloaded from Google Play Store

After conducting its final testing last year, GMA Network is all-set to launch its first-ever DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) device sometime this 2nd half of the year.

The device is called MyGMA Go – a compact end-user device that can act as a digital TV receiver when connected to an Android smartphone. The network is down to its final preparation for the launching of the said device.

MyGMA Go is way cheaper than other DTT devices. It comes with a mobile application that can be downloaded and installed from the Google Play Store. Through this, users will be able to watch GMA Network shows and other free-to-air channels without the need for an active Internet connection.

GMA Network started conducting field tests in Febuary 2013. They conducted field test for Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (ISDB-T), the Japanese standard in Digital Television that was adopted as the standard for Digital Terrestrial in  the Philippines.

Then in May 2015, GMA Network announced that the company will be spending at least 2 to 3 billion pesosfor the rollout of its digital TV service.

Just this May of 2019, the network is already on the second phase of the digitization project. Last Wednesday, during the annual meeting of the company, GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Felipe L. Gozon announced that the company is investing “over a billion pesos” just to complete its DTT Device MyGMA Go.

“Our digital device, which will have features that our competitors do not have, will be finally launched some time in the second half of this year,” he said.

It was also stated that the devices will be sold through its transformation partner PLDT, Inc. and its wireless subsidiary partner Smart Communication Inc. The device will cost around P500 each and since it is cheaper, the company sets an initial target of selling one million units out of the four million units nationwide.

Also, Gozon said that they decided not to launch a similar product to its rival ABS-CBN’s TV Plus (The Magical Blackbox) because they want to focus more on mobile phones as they wanted something where it allows interaction.

On the revenue side, Gozon stated that the company’s target is 12% growth in its revenue for 2019.

“I am confident that this year will bring better financial results because of election-related revenues as well as those from our recurring advertising sales. We target to increase our 2019 revenues by 12%.”
