After just three months, TV5’s Sunday musical variety show, Sunday Noontime Live (SNL) has bid goodbye. Reliable sources stated that the show was canceled due to poor ratings.
However, what shocked people is that the show which will replace SNL is ABS-CBN’s musical variety show, ASAP Natin ‘To. The reason is that ABS-CBN and TV5 formed a partnership, thus the Kapamilya network’s show will also be aired on TV5 and A2Z.
SNL’s hosts, Piolo Pascual, Maja Salvador, and Catriona Gray, former Kapamilyas, would get to see their show be replaced by one of ABS-CBN’s.
It can be recalled that during ABS-CBN’s shutdown, a flock of Kapamilya talents transferred to other networks. Among them were ASAP’s regular hosts Piolo Pascual and Maja Salvador.
Now, will they be part of ASAP or will they be on the bench watching the longest-musical variety show of ABS-CBN?
Ogie Diaz says no more comeback for some celebrities who transferred
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN Talent manager Ogie Diaz holds a list of celebrities whom he thinks will not be able to make a comeback to the network after leaving it because of the government’s decision to close the TV station.
According to Diaz, the network will not close its doors on returning artists but is not sure that those artists who countered the network will have the same chance. He also believes that it is useless to work with talents who have bad intentions for the network.
“Pero kung nagpakawala ka ng hindi magandang salita against sa ABS-CBN, mamarkahan ka nila. Kasi kung ayaw mo sa amin, eh bakit pa tayo mag tratrabaho kung ayaw mo sa amen. Diba eh ‘di diyan ka nalang sa gusto mo,” Diaz said.
He also dropped hints regarding the talents who were likely be accepted to return: those who asked permission first before transferring.
However, he also stressed that those who kept mum during the Congress hearing and franchise battle, including an artist who made hate comments against the network and another who sided with the Lower House will surely get no chance of returning.
SNL bids goodbye
SNL aired their last episode on Sunday, January 17. In a statement, Brightlight Productions CEO Albee Benitez on January 16 invited the viewers to watch the “season enders” of the musical-variety show.
“Sunday Noontime Live (SNL)’s delightful run is about to end and we await future endeavors from its outstanding stars and phenomenal newcomers,” Benitez wrote.
However, Benitez assured Brightlight’s fans that they will present new shows in the days to come.
“We are truly grateful for all your support, which inspires us to create new and exciting programs. Brighter days continue as we collaborate with TV5 and our other industry partners. We cannot wait to share news on upcoming shows from your partner in quality entertainment,” Benitez said.
“ASAP Natin ‘To” will make its debut in TV5 on January 24 while being simultaneously aired on A2Z.
