A new comedy star will rise in the new online comedy competition “Laugh Laban,” premiering on September 24 (Friday) at the FYE channel on kumu to be hosted by comedian-writer and “Lakas Tawa” host Alex Calleja.

He shared the good news live on kumu on Thursday night (September 9). He enthused, “May new show ako, may mananalo ng P100,000, and of course, may sisikat na komedyante!”

The contest is open to all amateur comics 18 years old and above, who can join as a soloist, in a duo, or a group act with the capacity to perform online via a livestream.

To enter, interested participants must record a two-minute video of them performing comedy—be it stand-up, improv, sketch, parody, etc—to be submitted through the Jeepney TV website until September 21 (Tuesday). Aspiring comedic acts are also encouraged to go live every 7pm starting Friday (Sept. 10) using the #LaughLaban hashtag or upload their entries via kumu klips using the same hashtag.

From the pool of qualifiers, 20 budding comedians will be chosen based on laugh factor, originality, and performance.

The first and second batch of the top 20 will be revealed on “Laugh Laban” on September 24 and October 1 respectively. Each of these batches will also stream individually on the SeenZone channel on kumu where viewers will be encouraged to send them virtual gifts to help them qualify for the top 12 who will be competing in head-to-head battles to give rise to a new comedy star, who will win P100,000 and an FYE contract and will lead an FYE show with Alex.
