Montano plays a bomb squad leader who goes extra lengths to apprehend a sly bomber played by De Leon.
In this film, popular action-star, Cesar Montano plays Col. Titus Varona, a bomb squad leader. His team is in pursuit of a certain Remo Doce (Christopher de Leon), a cunning bomber who has been wreaking havoc and fostering terror in the Metro by planting bombs. The film is just one of several films where Montano and De Leon starred in. The two worked together in the 1983 Ishmael Bernal and Vilma Santos-starred film, Broken Marriage, as well as the 1992 Nanette Medved -starrer, Hiram Na Mukha.
In Alas Dose, Remo Doce is no ordinary bomber. He targets high-profile politicians and businessmen who engaged in illegal and criminal acts. Varona struggled to understand Doce’s motives at first, but eventually learned and accepted them when his pursuit goes deeper and more dangerous.
Also part of the film is Montano’s long-time onscreen partner and former wife, Sunshine Cruz, who played May Vergara, a journalist, who later on became instrumental in shedding light on Remo’s case. Titus Varona goes all out in getting the criminal on the loose chained and behind bars, but he just falls at wit’s end. The release from prison of Doce’s mentor who is also a notorious bomber, adds more complication. Doce, on the other hand, keeps his distance close from Varona, who has no idea that the man he’s been after is just within arm’s reach.
Alas Dose also starred Behn Cervantes, Patricia Javier, Bon Vibar, Dick Israel, Rommel Montano, Rico J. Puno, Minco Fabregas, Alvin Bernales, Jerry Moncal, Rico Miguel, Jun Collao, Jerry Lopez, Issah Alcadra, Mel Kimura, and Jackie Castillejos. The screenplay is written by Sigfred Barro-Sanchez, who wrote several ABS-CBN dramas, including Gimik 2010 and Green Rose (2011). The film was directed by Augusto Salvador, who also directed several hit-action movies, including the Fernando Poe Jr.-starrer, Eseng ng Tondo (1997) and Berdugo (1998).
