Bermas, who appeared in previous Vivamax films, Silab (2021), Siklo (2022), and Sisid (2022), takes her turn as a solo-starrer in this latest Vivamax sexy drama, helmed by prolific director Joel Lamangan. Here, she is the object of the three handsome men, who each has varying motives in keeping a connection with her.
Eunice (Bermas) is an impoverished young woman, forced by her family’s scanty condition to work hard and earn money. In the city of Angeles, she is known as the most in-demand GRO at a sleazy bar, her reputation earning her smitten patrons. To navigate the financial demands of her bedridden mother, Flora (Tanya Gomez), and her studying boyfriend, Roy (Albie Casino), Eunice had to accept indecent offers. She meets the handsome American, Joseph Elliot (Kit Thompson), who promptly invites her to leave her job and live with him instead. It’s from Elliot she earned her new nickname ‘Moonlight Butterfly’.
Eunice’s affair with Elliot inevitably proves to be detrimental to her relationship with Roy. She, later on, agrees to the American’s request and starts living with her. Her job becomes mostly to please him. Elliot’s job requires him to go overseas, which means the assistance for Eunice and her family is receiving from him will be cut. To compensate for Elliot’s absence, she entertains yet another admirer, the wealthy Arab man, Habib (Ivan Carapiet).
Moonlight Butterly, as expected, has the usual Vivamax staples. It’s filled with daring scenes with Bermas baring her skin for her three leading men. Melodramatic sequences feel like an obligation to fulfill a Vivamax tradition, but they provide a sensible background to understand future proceedings in the film. Bermas took on her role with a level of believability, although one can say how unevenly written as a character Eunice is.
The unexpected 360-degree twist in Elliot’s identity feels like an imaginative effort to spice up the overly used script, although the ending somewhat gives the film the much-needed push.
